Of all cats, he didn't expect his brother to be a father.
Crowfang fretted over the well-being of those kittens day in and day out. Lynxstar wasn't exactly the most paternal of sorts- what if they didn't receive that fatherly love that they needed? Would they grow up cold? Feeling unloved? Lost? It bothered him relentlessly, but he was far too cowardly to face his brother regarding the situation. He'd just have to step in and do his best in Lynxstar's place, maybe when the leader was out or too busy to notice.
He held his breath, having been so consumed in his thoughts that he'd forgotten that he was stalking a hare, and let the rodent creep off without noticing. His posture relaxed as disappointment settled in, briefly glimpsing over the moorlands that rested before him. Was it more peaceful there? Did Hailsky, the mother of Lynxstar's litter, have any family there? The kittens would be so much better off in Windclan, where there was peace, in-tact hunting grounds, a lack of discrimination against other elements...
The black smoke tightened his jaw before he dropped his gaze to his own paws, heaving a heavy sigh. If he didn't have such heavy roots in ThunderClan, if he didn't fear the wrath of his brother, he would have left ThunderClan moons ago. But now that Lynxstar had kittens...they needed their uncle Crowfang. Who else would be there for them?

[nospaces] [attr="class","biggieno"] [attr="class","textieno"]Having time to herself was a luxury Fallowbird rarely had anymore.[break][break]
Being WindClan's only Queen and mother to 9 kits, 10 with Bumblekit, Fallowbird was exhausted most of the time. Her first litter were young warriors now, but she couldn't help but feel like she still needed to kittensit Mossleap, considering she'd nearly gotten herself killed as an apprentice. Not to mention her sheer hatred towards her father. "Steef", as she called him. was her prime target for mischief. Fallowbird couldn't say that she blamed her. That good-for-nothing tom had caused nothing but trouble since she'd first fallen for him. StarClan, to think she'd been so naive as to give him a second chance.[break][break]
Now she was stuck with another litter of assorted elemental kittens with no father. Part of her hoped the tom finally got what was coming for him and lost a fight to the wolves. StarClan knew she and her kin would be better off without him.[break][break]
Her aunt, Briarfish, had offered to watch the kits for the afternoon. Normally, the Queen took the chance to enjoy a nice nap, allowing the warm newleaf sunlight to filter through the nursery's entrance and keep her cozy. Six kits in the nursery made it feel cramped and stuffy, so the molly decided to stretch her legs out on the moor. The wolves still posed a threat, but Fallowbird felt more confident in herself than she had before she'd had her kits. If she could raise two air elements, three ice elements, and four water elements, she doubted a wolf or two could knock the wind out of her. She'd slipped and fallen on far too many patches of ice her tiny little hellspawn had made, she felt practically invincible to falls.[break][break]
Fallowbird hadn't noticed just how far she had wandered until the tall trees of ThunderClan territory were almost at her paws. Her eyes fell on a lone ThunderClan warrior by the border. Her curiosity got the better of her, and the molly found herself approaching, stopping at a safe distance. "I don't believe we've met." She dipped her head. "What brings you so close to the border, friend?"

Granted, Crowfang wasn't a father himself- maybe it wasn't really his place, maybe he was overstepping by trying to offer Lynxstar some assistance with the raising of his kittens. But he couldn't help but to be worried about them- he was a worrier by nature, and knowing his brother...well, Lynxstar wasn't the most gentle of sorts. He never had been- that was always Crowfang's job. And being that he was the last of their family, who else was to offer assistance? Crowfang hadn't seen Hollyfoot in what felt like moons, and Mouseclaw...stars, maybe she was gone now, but the mere thought of what his sister had become sent chills running down Crowfang's spine. Where had they gone wrong with her? What had happened? What if Lynxstar started to become like that- what would happen to the kits? Crowfang's eyes had been locked on some rock off in the distance, and he hadn't noticed the pale queen approaching him from WindClan's borders. "O-Oh!" The aging black smoke gasped, taking a small step back in surprise when he heard her voice and realized that she lingered near. The ThunderClan warrior cleared his throat. No, he didn't recall ever seeing the molly before, and he had definitely been to a lot of Gatherings, given his age. While she certainly wasn't as old as him, she wasn't exactly an apprentice, either. And based on her scent, he could assume that she was a queen. She must've spent most of her time in the nursery, hence him never noticing her at a Gathering before. "I'm afraid we haven't met before, no. My name's Crowfang, I'm a senior warrior." The gentle tom responded with a small smile, sending an acknowledging dip of his head in her direction. What was he doing so close to the border? Well...that certainly would be a story to tell, and he was sure that this poor molly didn't have all the time in the world to listen to him. He didn't want to force her to be his therapist, for crying out loud. "Ah, well my paws just carried me here, I suppose. I was just talking a stroll to think- I wasn't quite paying attention to where I was going." The silver-and-black tom slowly seated himself by the border to prove that he wasn't a threat. By the stars- he'd rather chew off his own leg than harm a queen, of all cats. Lynxstar was the...well, militaristic one of the family. Crowfang was the diplomat (and a failed on at that). "What about you?"Thorne

[nospaces] [attr="class","biggieno"] [attr="class","textieno"]The Queen looked at Crowfang and nodded as he introduced himself. "I'm Fallowbird, currently a Queen for WindClan." She dipped her head. "I believe you may have met two of my daughters when they found their way to ThunderClan after Mossleap's...stupidity." She flicked an ear. "They were apprentices at the time, Mosspaw and Eveningpaw." The light brown tabby took a moment to sit down, relax, and feel the gentle breeze from the moor. How she missed the freedom her duties as a warrior once brought, especially before the wolves infested their lands. She reminisced of a better time, before the wolves, before her joke of an ex-mate.[break][break]
She listened as he told his tale, how he'd just been wandering without a real goal in mind. She nodded along, noting that her journey hadn't really had a destination of its own, either.[break][break]
"Oh, the same for me, mostly." She nodded. "One of our elders offered to look after the kits so I could get out of camp, stretch my legs." Fallowbird meowed. "StarClan knows those kits take all my time otherwise. Briarfish is a lifesaver." She huffed.[break][break]
She couldn't help but pry. WindClan's desire for knowledge flowed in her veins, and so she felt like she needed to ask. "What about you? Any kits of your own, perchance?" She asked, tilting her head to the side slightly. ThunderClan had been plentiful with kits as of late, RiverClan as well. It seemed that DarkClan and ShadowClan had missed the memo that Newleaf had arrived.

The black smoke thought on it for a moment. He did recall a pair of WindClan apprentices temporarily taking refuge in their camp- one had broken their leg, hadn't it? "Ah- I remember them now. Sounds like you have your paws full." Crowfang remarked with an amused twitch of his tangled whiskers. He could relate to that on a spiritual level- he had to look after Lynxstar and try to keep the impulsive leader out of trouble. Which...was difficult. And more often than not, his attempts to guide him in the correct direction were unsuccessful. Apprentices were still malleable, but seniors like his brother... Rooted in their ways. "It's alright though- apprentices specialize in being stubborn, troublesome little ones, don't they? Unfortunately, it would seem that my brother never grew out of that stage..." The warrior trailed off before offering up a nervous, light-hearted laugh. It was followed by a heavy sigh. "...But I guess that's why we love them, eh?" He couldn't help but wonder if Lynxstar ever felt the same. Did he enjoy having Crowfang as a brother? Did he love him unconditionally, just as Crowfang loved him? An elder looking after her kits- he wondered who it was. As much as he hated to admit it, he probably would've recognized the elder by her name, given that Crowfang was...well, he was getting old. He was easily retirement age, but with Lynxstar still running ThunderClan as leader, he couldn't give up his warrior duties. Not yet. "Briarfish..." The silvered tom echoed thoughtfully, going through his several memory stores as he attempted to recall the name and place it with a face. He'd heard of that name before, he swore by it. Oh StarClan- he really was getting old. "I met Briarfish at the gatherings before! She always seemed like the admirable type." Oh stars, she wasn't even that much older than him. What was he now- a relic? Kits. Crowfang was taken back to his moments spent in secrecy lingering dangerously close to DarkClan, when he had met a dark element molly. If Lynxstar had ever figured it out, he would have surely killed his brother on the spot. Alas, the relationship never blossomed into much more, save for Crowfang hopelessly longing for her. "Nope, I suppose I've been married to nothing more than my duty for the past several moons. My brother did have a litter, however. I'm hoping to be the best uncle I can be."Thorne

[nospaces] [attr="class","biggieno"] [attr="class","textieno"]She smiled and laughed lightly. "Haha, yes, I most certainly do. As much as I would love for my kits to be all close, I do hope Mossleap's bad influence doesn't rub off on the younger ones. StarClan knows I could use the break." Fallowbird sighed. "I'm not sure what she would do without Eveningdove being her counterweight. I honestly don't know what I would do without her. I fear Mossleap, or their father, would probably be dead." The molly hummed. It was no secret how much Mossleap resented him, though Crowfang likely wasn't familiar with the relationship. Out of context, that must've sounded bad. Oops.[break][break] "Their relationship is complicated..." She added, hoping that would make it sound a little less wrong. As he spoke of the rebellious streaks that came with apprentices, Fallowbird nodded. "Oh, believe me, I am quite familiar with them. I pray the young ones don't follow in their sister's paw steps. I sometimes have half a mind to suck the air out of them. Lovingly, of course." She smiled. "Then I suppose we have something in common. Problematic relatives who refuse to grow up." Fallowbird purred. She only wanted what was best for her kits, truly. Being a single parent was draining, especially when their deadbeat father seemed adamant about trying to court her whenever she wasn't nursing. Prick.[break][break] Fallowbird nodded as he spoke of his opinions on Briarfish. "That she is. She's my aunt on my mother's side. I hope the water elementals in the family seek out her wisdom in their training. She's truly a master in her art. Should the wolves ever threaten her sunning time, she'll be sure to get them out of WindClan for good." She chuckled. "But she's earned her rest. A great warrior in her time, that's for certain."[break][break] "Ah, that's a shame. They suck the life out of you for a while, but it's always worth it in the end. Getting to shape young minds and inspire them to be the best they can isn't something you always get to experience. And once they accomplish things you never thought possible of yourself, well, that brings on a sense of pride you'll never forget." She said. "Even the little milestones like their first gust of wind, or their first sheet of ice that you inevitably slip and fall on." Fallowbird flicked an ear. Too many patches of ice. If Mossleap taught Mothkit to do that...[break][break] Oh, she'd be picking ticks off of Briarfish for moons. She'd see to it. Stormstar owed her.[break][break] "But I'm certain you'll make a great uncle to those little terrors. Keep them reigned in, yeah? We don't need another Lynxstar causing problems. No offence, of course."[break][break] 20mia08[attr="class","iconieno"] [newclass=.biggieno]margin-left:-300px;[/newclass] [newclass=.textieno]margin-top:-425px;margin-bottom:150px;width:300px;height:400px;padding:10px;background-color:#fff;border:solid 1px #b7b7b7;color:#939393;text-align:justify;overflow:auto;margin-left:610px;font:11px calibri;[/newclass] [newclass=.textieno::-webkit-scrollbar]width:10px;background:#fff;[/newclass] [newclass=.textieno::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background:#b7b7b7;border:2px solid #fff;[/newclass] [newclass=.iconieno]margin-top:-240px;margin-left:-220px;margin-bottom:50px;[/newclass] [newclass=.tagsieno]font:11px calibri;color:#b7b7b7;margin-top:-75px;margin-left:-75px;margin-bottom:40px;[/newclass]
