The final moon of Newleaf was underway in the Valley, bringing the promise of Greenleaf's storms on the horizon. Fernwhisker looked forward to the more powerful weather events, having always been pulled towards the natural phenomenon. The way the lightning split the sky into thousands of little fragments in a split second, only to become whole once more, the feline couldn't pry their eyes from the sky once the first crack of thunder echoed through the Valley.
The air around them felt tense. A similar feeling to when Fernwhisker used her element. A storm was brewing, the clouds in the sky were dark and looming. Most cats would be hurrying to finish their patrols to seek shelter before the rain, but not them.
Fernwhisker chose the prime spot to chase the storm, opting to climb the Watching Stone in the center of the Air Pool. They lifted their chin as a cool breeze passed. They closed their eyes to get a better feel for the air around them. Was it charged enough to bring the promise of a lightning storm? Or would it simply be rain? How heavy would the storm be?
The thrill of predicting the storms was something she'd relished. Something she hoped she could share with someone else. NOTES ; please hold their lesbian paw

It was some time since her adopted father had passed, and with each coming day, Sorrelblaze attempted to be stronger in a desperate attempt to make him proud. She never expected to become a warrior without him, but she'd finally accomplished it. Being one of WindClan's few earth elements, she was now relied upon for ensuring that the resident tunnels were safe and sound for use. As a warrior, she'd finally found her purpose. But she hadn't necessarily found her "people". She was mouthy, a bit abrasive, but she was still sensitive at her core. She hated being alone, she hated her lack of company and she hated how her innate attitude had a tendency to push others away. Wasn't it supposed to be easy to make friends? Sorrelblaze still tried her best. She was always volunteering to help, and she enjoyed the rewarding sense she received from aiding others in accomplishing their tasks. It felt great to have purpose as an earth element. Friends would just come eventually, right? The rosey-furred warrior ruffled her coat before drawing in a deep breath, staring at the horizon as she stepped out of one of the several new tunnels. Mud tinged her paws, and she was exhausted from reinforcing the walls. And with rain on the way...she was glad she finished in record-breaking time. The ticked tabby raised her head, noticing that someone was enjoying a moment at the Air Pool. Curious, Sorrelblaze crept closer until she could recognize the figure as Fernwhisker, the young warrior who had comforted her upon Snakepad's death. "You watching the storm?" The molly called from below, glimpsing up at the warrior and then looking out to the darkening clouds on the horizon. "...Mind if I join you?"She hoped they'd accept. She really did. She just wanted...company. The good sort. Thorne

Fernwhisker's attention was pulled away from the horizon as a familliar voice spoke to them. "Oh, Sorrelblaze!" Their eyes turned to the russet feline, offering a smile. "Yeah, I am." The tabby recalled their last discussion, having comforted her after the passing of her adoptive father. They could try and empathize with the warrior, using their experience of their biological mother walking out on them once they and their brothers were weaned.
They still had their dads. Sorrelblaze had no one. Perhaps they couldn't empathize at all. Still, they offered their shoulder when the molly needed it, and they hoped it had done enough.
They nodded as she asked if she could join them. "Of course, be my guest!" They purred. Fernwhisker moved over, allowing their new companion some space on the rock. Their eyes turned back to the clouds, watching as they rolled across they sky. NOTES ; n/a

Everyone rumored that she likely had ThunderClan roots- from her earth element, to her uncanny resemblance to the hot-headed senior warrior, Vixenleap. She hated hearing gossip. How she wanted to put rumors to rest, but what could she possibly do? Sorrelblaze hardly knew anything about the past herself. For all she knew...those rumors could've been true. Yet it was so refreshing to feel the wind on her face after she left the dankness of the Windclan tunnels. It reminded her how much she loved the moor, of how she could never bring herself to live in a crowded forest like ThunderClan. Maybe she wasn't WindClan by blood, but this...this place was her home. The russet feline perked her ears when Fernwhisker welcomed her up. She eagerly approached the rocks with an eager flick of her tail, but she struggled to scale them. She stretched out her body, reached out with her paws but still she slipped. Maybe this was just easier for those air elements? Biting her tongue, Sorrelblaze summoned a few rocks to carry her to where Fernwhisker sat before finally stepping off to rest beside the tabby warrior. There. That was better. Perking her ears, the young molly glanced out to the darkening horizon. "Think it'll be a good storm?" She questioned Fernwhisker while briefly glancing up at the warrior. "Can't wait for the grass to be full again- no more of this dry stuff. Just tall, soft green Greenleaf grass."Thorne

Fernwhisker glanced over to see Sorrelblaze struggling to climb up onto the stone. They repressed a giggle, offering their companion a goofy smile once she finally made it to the top, even if she cheated. They scooted over a little more to ensure that there was a comfortable amount of space for the both of them.
They flicked an ear as Sorrelblaze asked her question. Fernwhisker lifted their head and closed their eyes for a few moments. They felt the air around them, focusing on the breeze. "Hmm...given the cool air and super dark clouds, most folks can call for this to be a pretty gnarly storm." They looked at the russet warrior. "But a trick of the trade from us storm cats," Fernwhisker stood up and lifted her tail to point towards the sky. "Is testing for the static." The fur on their tail ruffled and fuzzed up.
"I already feel a bit recharged, and the air feels super fuzzy." They purred. "I think I can forecast a thunderstorm. I'll take your next dawn patrol if I'm wrong." Fernwhisker winked, then sat down again.
They nodded as Sorrelblaze spoke of the grass. "Oh, what I would give for the good grass to come back. I miss having it in my nest." NOTES ; storm chasing nerd

Was it wrong to ask a storm element about storms? Like, didn't they have a sort of intuition with that kind of stuff? Then again, it wasn't as if Sorrelblaze could detect all the movements underneath the earth and predict upcoming earthquakes. Then again, she could sometimes feel the movement of rabbits beneath their burrows, and the shifting of the tunnels as the earth began to settle. As she caught her breath from her struggle and finally came to rest near Fernwhisker on the floating stones, she hesitantly scooted closer to the feline. Hopefully they wouldn't mind- Sorrelblaze just liked company. She missed the closeness that she had with her father. She had nobody else. She followed their motioning to the dark clouds. Indeed, it looked quiet menacing, like there'd be an impressive chorus of thunder to be heard in the evening. But, that was merely Sorrelblaze's opinion- she was no expert on storms. "Static?" The red-furred feline questioned, returning her round eyes to the tabby at her side before offering a lopsided smirk. "Like when you roll in some really dry grass, and your fur sticks up at funny angles?"
She couldn't help but to steal a glance at Fernwhisker's pelt, as if checking for any signs of static. "Well, you're the professional here- doesn't seem like a fair gamble on my part." Sorrelblaze commented before that sly smirk slowly returned to her features. "...But you're on!" It was a game she wasn't likely to win, but she'd take her chances. If she had even the slightest chance of getting out of a dawn patrol, she'd take it. Anything to avoid the wolves. Grass for their nest, eh? Sorrelblaze briefly shuffled her paws around thoughtfully. "...I know where to find some decent grass if you ever want some."Thorne
