Being the only kitten in the nursery, it was a little hard to miss Magpiekit- unless someone wasn't paying attention and ended up accidentally trampling him, of course. Nonetheless, he was dapper and polite for a kitten, and did his best to remain out of the way and out of trouble. But when you were the first and only non-dark element in the clan...it did attract attention. Of course, it was still all over his head. Magpiekit still firmly believed that he would be like everyone else over time- he just needed to work harder or grow into his element a little more. Things would level out, with time. But what wouldn't change was his overwhelming fear of the dark, which was ironic considering his clan and mother. Something about the shadows of nighttime, or just shadows in general...well, they frightened him to the core. Even as he'd grown a little bit older, Magpiekit was still absolutely terrified of the dark. He couldn't help but think that something dangerous might be lurking in the shadows, something that wanted to take him far away from his mother and eat him. So naturally, when he was playing mossball and his moss happened to tumble into a dark log at the edges of camp...well, Magpiekit was at a loss. He wanted to keep playing because he was bored and frankly he had no friends due to the lack of other kittens. But...well, it was dark inside that log. What could be in there? A skunk? A monster? Lynxstar? Magpiekit danced nervously by the edges of the log, stepping from toe to toe as he attempted to figure out a solution. Maybe if he found a really long stick, he could retrieve his mossball without stepping inside the spooky log. Ooooh- but what if something grabbed the stick and then pulled him inside?! Ioana003

WolfsongSilence was a gift from the stars, and Wolfsong knew it well. Clans were always busy, always buzzing with emotions and fears, that silence became so uncommon many found it so eerie to be around. But for this Warrior, the tight walls of the empty log inside the quiet nursery was more than they could ask for. It felt sacred, in a way, to be able to be forgotten for the briefest of time, for there to simply be them and their thoughts, trying to figure out other ways to use their skills to find such rare and great moments.
But nothing lasts forever. A morbid teaching from the late RiverClan Medicine Cat, Wolfsong had memorised it well and knew more than anyone what it truly meant. And her silence, like the memory, faded, as the whispering "thump" of small, approaching pawsteps brought their mind back to the present. From inside the dark log, they could see a bundle of gray fur approaching. It was small and fragile, no doubt a Kit. Wolfsong only really knew of one kitten in DarkClan, that being the timid Magpiekit. A very sweet child, truthfully, who the Warrior saw a little of themselves in as their anxious eyes sparkled towards them.
At first, it was odd that they didn't react, but Wolfsong soon remembered that the young tom cannot see them - they weren't a Dark Element. And- what's this? A small ball of moss, rolled up near Wolfsong's paws. Not wanting to interrupt the Kit's playtime, they lightly pushed it back out, without showing any hint of them.
Although... Something felt unusual. Which is to say, everything was always unsual, but this time, it felt even more so. Wasn't the small Kit almost 6 Moons old? Wouldn't he have to leave soon? Has Wolfsong ever actually talked to them? It felt like... if they weren't going to say anything, they would lose something. Wolfsong never wanted to go against their instinct, so they began to speak in their usual, quiet and raspy voice.
"You know... They say that each star in the sky is a StarClan Warrior, who had fought here where we are but now are no more. Have you ever tried to count them all up?" 20mia08

The little air element, while a sense of element continued to grip his heart, scrunched up his nose as his mind worked around the situtaion. He tried his best to think of a logical solution to his problem- what would a brave and smart warrior like his momma do in his paws? Granted, he wasn't brave- but he could be smart if he tried hard enough, right? The tiny black smoke kit curled his tail nerovusly as he continued to stare into the depths of the log, holding his breath as he thought and thought. Maybe...maybe he could try using his funny element? It wasn't too strong yet, but it might be enough to push the mossball out of the dark log. Magpiekit began to knead the ground nervously with his miniscule mitts, swallowing hard as he tried to summon the courage to at least get closer to the darkened log. He was so sucked into the situation, so shrouded in doubt that he was scared out of his fur when the mossball suddenly came rolling back out. "Eep!" A pathetic squeak escaped the kitten, who puffed out his fur and promptly danced backwards. Where had it suddenly come from? What pushed it? Was there a monster sleeping in there after all?! Magpiekit timidly leaned back on his haunches while quivering underneath his smoky coat, prepared to sprint away with all his might if the monster came out of the log. However, there was instead a quiet voice- one he'd never heard, but nothing that sounded particularly threatening. "Nnnnghh....b-but why would they f-fight?" He tried to muster up the courage to speak, but fear was still readily present in his little form. Had he tried to count them? Well...Magpiekit was seldom out of the nursery at night- it was dark outside, and therefore very frightening. He'd rather be in his nest, where Ravenstar was. Where he was safe. "...Well I-..." The black smoke kit glanced down to his paws as he continued to shuffle them around anxiously. "...I-I can't c-count past twenty..."Ioana003

Wolfsong"Twenty?" replied the soft-spoken Warrior. "That's plenty!" Kind and caring, the cat didn't want to disturb the tiny (or, well, more than tiny now) Kit more than they likely already have. "I do hope I'm not scaring you, little one," they said. "Many times I've found myself afraid. Being watched makes me..." They stopped for a brief moment, rolling the thought in their head. Kindness is one thing, but being so open, well- it felt wrong. Simply so unnatural, saying even something as simple as a fear. No, they couldn't continue this train of thought. "Well, how you would feel. But knowing someone as close to me as Mistypelt is somewhere up there, making sure I'm doing well makes me less afraid."Wolfsong raised their paw up to the roof of the log. With their soft pawpads lightly touching the rough wood, they pushed the faintest of shadown around and left a tiny, brightly blazing dot. A pale lavender light showed as an outline, but the Warrior made sure shadows still hugged tightly to their fur, obscuring their form. "Like this."20mia08

The naive little black smoke took another cautious step back, his tail remaining between his legs as he swallowed the lump that occupied his tightening throat. "I-It is?" Magpiekit squeaked nervously, uncertain of how high he was really supposed to be able to count to. Was there a standard? Was he lagging behind in his learning? Would Ravenstar be upset if he didn't work harder to count? The tiny tom's permanently blue eyes briefly flickered back up to the feline, before he once again looked down to his paws, scuffling them around in the dusty earth. "Y-Yeah, but....I-I'm scared of a-a lot of things." His list of fears seemed to be never-ending, and constantly growing. Of course, darkness was on the top of that list- along with losing his momma. His momma was his entire world- Ravenstar was all that Magpiekit knew. She was his best friend, his role model, his mother, his protector...that list, too, was as long as long could be. He didn't know what he'd do without his momma. Mistypelt? He'd never heard of a "Mistypelt" before- there were a good number of DarkClan cats, but that list was still relatively limited. He'd heard most of their names before. "....Wh-What's a 'Mistypelt'?"Up there? Magpiekit looked back up to the sky, which was still light thanks to the afternoon sun. Otherwise, the kitten would surely be cowering in the nursery. What was this cat's friend doing up in the sky? Was "sky" an element, or...? Oh. He understood now. The air element cautiously watched as the warrior reached out with their paw to stroke the bark of the log in which they hid. Magpiekit briefly angled his ears backwards, uncertain, before promptly flickering them forward as things began to change. There was a mesmirizing violet, but still his fears lingered. While withheld, the shadows persisted, causing Magpiekit to immediately cower away. "...I-I don't l-like the dark. I-It....i-it's scary." He sputtered over the words. Ioana003
