Sorry if these questions have already been answered in the information threads.

So, if a cat for example was born in ThunderClan with two Earth element parents and comes from a lineage of mostly Earth element cats, is it possible for them to spontaneously acquire another element? If, for example, on the mother's side, she had a grandfather with a River element, could that element have skipped her and her parents' generation to one or more of her kits? 

So basically, what I'm asking is is it possible for elements to skip generations/occur spontaneously?
