Stormstar
He'd been waiting for this day for so, so long.
Having to be estranged from Ravenstar and his other son brought him an immense amount of pain, something that was only remedied by the presence and joyful laughter of Bumblekit. What more, having to keep his son's true maternal parentage a secret...it was a burden that was hard to carry. His son had every right to know about Ravenstar, about how noble and strong of a warrior she was, how great of a mother she was, how selfless of an individual she was...While he couldn't possibly thank Fallowbird enough for assisting in rearing Bumblekit, it was time that he knew the truth.
Besides, keeping himself from Ravenstar...it was one of the hardest things he'd ever done.
He longed for her every day, every living and breathing moment of his life. WindClan was his duty, his pride, but Ravenstar...she was his home. Stormstar felt like an apprentice prepared to become a warrior, he was just that excited to climb the hills and come into view of Five Stones. He recalled the day he first met Ravenstar, how nervous he was of meeting the leader of the dark elements herself after all the rumors that existed about her. He remembered how she became his confidant, of how she advised him to create the tunnel systems so that WindClan could survive the plague of wolves.
It was just a testament to how wonderful she was.
WindClan wasn't Ravenstar's clan, and yet she cared for their wellbeing. And now, she as the mother of his kits, and he couldn't possibly be happier (save for if they could exist together in the same clan). A more perfect mother couldn't possibly exist, he was sure of it.
Stormstar had butterflies in his belly. Once again, he knew that he'd fall in love with her all over again. Once again, he knew it'd be impossibly difficult to let her go. But one day, some day in the future...he knew that she'd be his again. They could spend hours underneath the safety of the moonlight once more, roaming gardens of wildflowers without worrying about StarClan's judgement, or the threats of war and the code. They could be with their sons, and maybe...maybe with more kits. They could just be one big, happy family.
The black smoke crept closer to Five Stones with Bumblekit, drawing in a deep breath. There was so much energy within his belly, emotions of both anxiety and unexplainable excitement. It was difficult, sneaking Bumblekit off and trying to explain the situation to his son. He hoped Bumblekit would love Ravenstar just as much as he did. And he hoped that little Magpiekit would like them as well. "...A-Are you ready?" The WindClan leader asked as his son, peering down at the young air element.

A midnight adventure was definitely not something Bumblekit had expected to be on the agenda today. A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. He eagerly followed Stormstar, clumsily tripping over his own paws occasionally. He couldn't think of a time where he had ever walked this much. Did Mothpaw and the others have to go for this big of a walk when they became apprentices? Was it an even bigger walk? Oh, he had so many questions for his foster family!
He had been enjoying a nice dream when Stormstar had woken him with the promise of a fun adventure. How could he ever say no to such a proposition? This was to be their little secret--mp pme else was to find out about their little outing. He hoped he could pick out a flower for his dad this time. He always brought back pretty flowers, Bumblekit wanted to return the favour.
The little tom's ears pricked up when Stormstar asked if he was ready. He wasn't sure what he was supposed to be ready for, but he was confident he would be anyway. His dad was WindClan's leader, Bumblekit believed he was destined to be great. And a great cat always had to be ready for anything.
"Yes, pa!" He purred, wriggling his hindquarters in excitement. NOTES; n/a Only time will tell if we’re all just cynics on the run notes Ravenstar padded through DarkClan territory, carrying Magpiekit by the scruff. Something about the day had her on edge, instinct trying to tell her something. But what? Pacing in her den wasn't going to solve her problems, nor would it answer her questions.
Tensions were rising along the RiverClan border and things were not easing on the fight against ThunderClan's tyranny. Fighting a battle on two fronts was the last thing the molly had been looking to do. How was she to find answers about her missing warriors from ThunderClan when RiverClan was breathing down their necks?
She hoped Stormstar would have the same idea as her tonight. She wasn't certain how to justify her little outing to Magpiekit if it weren't to meet someone. He was terrified of the dark, she didn't want to force him on a premature tour of the territory before he was of appentice age.
Once Five Stones was in view, Ravenstar picked up the pace. If Stormstar hadn't come, perhaps she would use the excuse of stargazing, tell the little tom that the stars shone brightest at Five Stones. Perhaps that would put his little mind at ease. If we’re all just cynics come undone

Stormstar
Stormstar had probably been more alert than ever before as he brought hi son away from camp and into the blackness of night. There was no knowing what might lurk around every corner- wolves were almost a given nowadays. It was a dangerous move, removing Bumblekit from the safety of camp. But he deserved to know the truth.
He deserved to know that he had a wonderful, loving mother out there just like all the other kittens in the nursery.
Bumblekit's enthusiasm, despite not knowing what was waiting out there for him, brought a wide smile to the leader's face that caused his eyes to squint. "...I knew I brought the bravest and best warrior with me this evening." The paternal feline responded to his mini carbon copy with a soft voice, before drawing in a long, deep breath that was nonetheless shaky. He could only pray that Ravenstar was there, else he might disappoint his son with nothing but an empty gathering site. Although, Bumblekit would likely be amazed nonetheless. How often was it that a kitten got to see Five Stones?
It was time for them to cross. "L-Let's watch our steps- we don't want you going home soak and wet from the river." Stormstar murmured before gently picking his son up by the scruff, gracefully crossing the bridge with a few swift steps, escorted by the power of the wind. Normally, he'd stumble over that bit, but he had to be extra cautious with Bumblekit in his grasp. Now that they were safe, he gently placed his son back on the ground.
Was she here?
"This is Five Stones. This is where all the clans meet when the moon is full." He tried to briefly explain to his son, while his pale eyes flickered around desperately to find her, the cat that his heart longed for with every passing day. "...O-One day, when you're-"
His breath had been stolen. There she was, the lady of his dreams, lingering on the edge of DarkClan's territory. Waiting for him, for them with a little furball in her jaws.
"...Ts- I...B-Bumblekit...there's someone I really, really would love for you to meet..."

YOU HAVE ALWAYS WORN YOUR FLAWS UPON YOUR SLEEVE ― He thought the boogie man was out to get them when his momma had woken him in the middle of the night, for reasons he did not understand. Magpiekit was initially confused, and then promptly distraught when his mother attempted to coax him out into the dead of night, where monsters like Lynxstar lurked in the shadows of the moon.
Magpiekit didn't want to upset his momma- he loved her dearly, trusted her full-heartedly. But the dark was petrifying to him, for reasons he could never quite wrap his little mind around. He had spent quite some time thrashing in her grasp, sobbing in protest when he was dragged out into the unwelcoming duskiness of midnight.
He didn't understand- had he done something wrong? Had he upset his momma, or Crowthroat? Why was she doing this, where was she taking him?
The little black smoke kitten didn't have enough fight in his tiny form. The fear that had him by his neck had sucked all of the energy from his body, leaving him as a shivering, paralyzed furball. Magpiekit had stopped moving in Ravenstar's grasp, instead curling himself up into a tight ball and nestling his face into the fur of the DarkClan's leader's neck, to shelter his eyes from the monsters of the dark.
"Mh....I-I...I-I'm s-so so-sorry momma, I...I-I didn't....didn't m-mean to...!" He didn't know what he was sorry for, he didn't know why Ravenstar had brought him far from the safety of his warm nest, to leave them vulnerable in the scary night atmosphere.
Magpiekit was sobbing hysterically. "...I...I-I wo-won't...n...d-do it ag-again!"
The smoke kitten had done nothing wrong, from what he was aware, but when was anything ever "right" for him? He was still different from the others. He looked funny, he had silvery tints to his fur. He couldn't summon scary shadows like them, he could only make feathers dance.
Why did the starry ancestor cats punish him like this? Why couldn't he just be like everyone else? 000 words. tagged.

Bumblekit bounced eagerly as Stormstar spoke of his bravery. "That's right, pa! I'll protect you against anyone, o-or anything!" He purred. The small smoke let out a murr as Stormstar picked him up. "Aw, papa, I would've gotten over all by myself!" He squeaked.
The kit quckly turned to face Stormstar once he was back on solid ground. He had some choice words for his dad, calling him the bravest, but not letting him cross all by himself! He had jumped Mothpaw's ice patches that were bigger than that!
As he was about to voice his protests, Stormstar had introduced him to the mysterious new place they had journeyed together to. So this was the spot his beloved father would disappear to some nights. The stones were so tall to him. He wanted to try and climb up one.
His attention was pulled back to Stormstar when he stopped speaking for a moment. "Pa?" He asked, tilting his head to the side. He continued on speaking, though off topic. "Really? Who?" NOTES; n/a Only time will tell if we’re all just cynics on the run notes Magpiekit's endless cries weren't pleasant. Hearing him sob without end broke her heart, but they were too committed to turn back now. "I know, baby, I know." She hummed. "You're not in trouble, my love." Ravenstar said.
Her eyes fell onto two dark shapes on the island. Her heart raced. He's here. "We're going to see some friends who are just like you, doesn't that sound nice?" She asked. "You'll be just fine, I promise you. Nothing will hurt you while I'm here." She promised. "Even if Lynxstar comes, I'll fight him off for you. There is nothing to be afraid of when you're with me, okay?" She purred.
Ravenstar arrived at the stepping stones, flicking her ear. "Don't wiggle too much, okay? I don't want you to fall." She advised.
The dark molly carefully went from stone to stone until reaching the other side, a bright smile lighting up her face as her eyes met Stormstar's. She padded over, then gently placed Magpiekit down at her paws. She sat down, leaving space between her forelegs for him to wiggle into, should he choose to hide as he always did.
"I've missed you so much." She purred softly, dipping her head to Stormstar. She looked to Bumblekit, admiring how quickly he had grown. To think she hadn't seen that little bundle of fur since she'd kitted. He was already so big. "You've grown so much, Bumblekit." She smiled. If we’re all just cynics come undone

Stormstar
Bumblekit seemed prepared to protest against his father's desire to keep him safe and dry. His son's inner flame amused him, but brought a lingering wave of silent agony as well. How he reminded Stormstar of Ravenstar, of her stubborn nature and her passionate flare. He couldn't resist a small smile, silently praying that Bumblekit wouldn't bring trouble in the future. His son certainly struck him as the mischievous sort from time to time. "I know you could have made it all by yourself, Bumblekit." He reassured his kit with a warm smile before affectionately nuzzling his skull against the tiny tom's. "J-Just humor your old dad, alright? It's hard to believe you're getting so big already."
The black smoke briefly took in their surroundings, drawing in a long breath as he admired the great stones in the light of the moon. It reminded him of her every time, making it hard for his mind to focus on Gatherings when they did hold their regular full-moon meeting. He was, however, briefly reminded of the several times he biffed it when he attempted to scale WindClan's rock for the Gatherings. Sometimes, his long legs were more of a curse than they were a blessing. He hoped Bumblekit would be able to be more graceful than his father.
The wind was stolen from his lungs when Ravenstar approached. He swore she was more beautiful now than she ever was before, now that she was the mother to his children. It warmed his heart, seeing little Magpiekit dangling in her jaws as she approached. For once, after what felt like an eternity...they were together, as a family again. Just as they had been before, when they were baking in their mom's belly when she broke the news of the pregnancy. "R-Ravenstar..." Stormstar breathed, struggling to find his words in the presence of her might and grace.
If only he could wake to see her face at every dawn, to have his ears graced by her voice every night...
Stormstar couldn't resist leaning forward to gently brush his forehead against her cheek, longing to feel her fur against his once more. It'd been too long- Starclan had starved him of her love for far, far too long. He nearly melted at her mere touch. "I've m-missed you more than the sun misses the moon..." The WindClan leader murmured softly, feeling his heart racing in his chest.
His rounded eyes briefly fell to the tiny fuzzball that had nestled itself nervously between the queen's paws. "He has your eyes, too...th-they're both so perfect."
The leader returned his attention to the son his mate had entrusted him with, offering Bumblekit an encouraging smile. "Bumblekit, my son...th-this is your mother, the bravest warrior in all of the Valley...and this is your brother, Magpiekit."
|
YOU HAVE ALWAYS WORN YOUR FLAWS UPON YOUR SLEEVE ― Magpiekit had briefly glimpsed up at his mother, temporarily pulling his head from her neck fur to ensure that she was ok still. He, nonetheless, brought a paw to his face to block out the darkness and prospective scary monsters that might linger around every corner, every shadow. The little tom sniffled underneath the paw. "B-But what i-i-if...th-the monsters...wh-what if th-they get you?" He hiccupped to his mother hysterically, suddenly fearing significantly more for her well-being, rather than his own.
His momma was his entire world- he couldn't risk losing her!
The smoke kitten ceased his wiggling as his mother had asked, not wanting to upset her as they trekked through the darkness. "B-But...b-b-but why do w-we gotta go th-through the d-dark to s-s-see our....our friends?" He sniffled as fear gripped his little heart. What if these friends were monsters, too? Monsters only came out in the dark, right? So...why couldn't they come by and see them during the day, when it was light and safe?
When Ravenstar finally set him onto the smooth stones, he promptly burrowed between Ravenstar's paws at the sight of a strange cat. He peered over his narrow shoulders nervously, the whites of his eyes visible as he gawked at the stranger. He was tall- huge! He was taller than the tall rocks, Magpiekit swore by it!
The stranger knew his name- Magpiekit didn't know why, or how. But his fur...it was different, it looked like Magpiekit's. And that kit with him- was that...was that Magpiekit's reflection? He opened his jaws to ask questions, but he could summon no words to emit. Fear was at his throat. The tiny kit simply reserved to burrowing his face into Ravenstar's fur once more while quivering underneath his smoky fur. 000 words. tagged.

Bumblekit purred in amusement. "I'll be just as big as you soon, just you wait!" He bounced around excitedly. His attention was soon pulled as he saw another figure approach, backing up closer to his father cautiously.
The little tom's eyes locked onto Magpiekit, excitement fluttering through him. He looked just like him! Just like his pa! He heard his father speak to the coal molly and watched as they nuzzled. "Ew...gross..." He stuck out his tongue as they did icky gross love stuff. He'd rather listen to Briarfish and Fallowbird talk about Steef! He gave Ravenstar a confused look as she spoke of how much he'd grown. He couldn't remember meeting her before...
He turned his head and listened as Stormstar introduced the pair of strangers. His mother...and his brother...? Bumblekit sat down and processed the information for a few moments. Okay. He accepted it. His dad would never lie to him, and he already had a huuuuge family. He wouldn't mind another brother amongst his siblings. The more the merrier seemed to be the trend in the Fallowbird family.
Bumblekit left his father's side and cautiously sniffed at Magpiekit. "You smell...funny...not like grass..." He hummed. "Do you guys have grass?" He tilted his head to the side. "What kind of games do you play?" NOTES; frien,, Only time will tell if we’re all just cynics on the run notes She gently shook her head at his worries. "I promise you that the monsters won't come for me. They're more afraid of me than you are of them." She purred gently. Ravenstar flicked an ear at his question. "Because it has to be our secret. Most cats are sleeping right now so they won't find out. You have to promise you won't tell anyone, okay my love?"
Hearing Stormstar's words were like honey soothing a sore throat. She nuzzled him lovingly, finding comfort in his warmth. She'd been longing to see her better half, wanting nothing more than to be able to spend real time together. Gatherings were torturous, unable to say the things they'd wanted to say. She was tired of the act, but it had to be done. For the safety of their sons and their Clans. "You have no idea how much I've missed you too. These past few moons have been hell. I'd rather spend another moon in ThunderClan than be apart from you that long again." She murmured.
She watched as Bumblekit approached Magpiekit. She gave Magpiekit a gentle lick between his ears, encouraging him to say hello. "This is your brother, Bumblekit. And that there is your father, Stormstar." Ravenstar meowed to him. If we’re all just cynics come undone

Stormstar
He nervously flicked an ear in the direction of Bumblekit when he commented on his interaction with Ravenstar, silently praying that he'd accept the DarkClan leader as he biological mother. He wanted nothing more than to finally unite their family, to live a life of peace, to watch his sons grow alongside their mother. Stormstar understood that Bumblekit might be confused, and that he couldn't just "force" the kit to love the molly he could never recall. With time, he hoped that Bumblekit would realize how wonderful Ravenstar was. "...Eh...Heh, sorry, Bumblekit." Stormstar purred awkwardly at his son's disgusted reaction.
The WindClan leader promptly returned his attention to Ravenstar, absorbing every moment with her and forever storing them in his memory to be cherishesd until the day he died. He drew in a deep breath, relishing in the DarkClan leader's embrace. How he longed for the soft touch of her fur, the sound of her voice, the sweetness of her scent. "...I'd have to march over there and give that Lynxstar a p-proper beating if you were over there." He mewed quietly, lovingly staring into her periwinkle eyes. Truth be told, Lynxstar was terrifying in Stormstar's eyes. But he'd go any length to ensure Ravenstar's safety and happiness, even if it meant one day facing that ThunderClan tyrant.
"..Has everything been ok in DarkClan? Do you need any help? I know you have a lot on your plate, with ThunderClan and being leader and raising a son all at once." The selfless tom kneaded the grass with his claws, already trying to think up any possible solution to his mate's problems back at home. He loved her- he wanted to support her, no matter the distance between them. "I-I'll give up some of my own meals if I have to."
Stormstar stole a glance towards their sons as they interacted for the first time since their birth. How he hated having a stake driving their family apart. It was like some cruel game StarClan played, toying with their feelings and keeping rules in place to keep their small family divided.
HAREDUNG.
The flowers, he'd wanted to give her flowers! And he'd totally forgotten!
|
YOU HAVE ALWAYS WORN YOUR FLAWS UPON YOUR SLEEVE ― He did his best to smile at his mother's reassurance and be brave, he really did, but it was so, so hard to be brave. The darkness had swallowed them whole, and what more, he was in a foreign place. The rocks were so tall, towering above him and likely hiding away the monsters that might try to sneak up on him and his mother. But Ravenstar was tough, right? She'd keep him safe like she promised?
Magpiekit watched with round and confused eyes as his mother embraced this tall...stranger, who smelled like wind and dry grass. What was she doing? Why was she being so friendly with this...this scary giant?
Magpiekit returned to what he swore was his own reflection across the way, but the reflection didn't copy his movements. With his eyes as round as a full moon, he awkwardly leaned away from Bumblekit as the bolder kitten sniffed him and commented on his smell. He sent a frightened glance Ravenstar's way, but she seemed distracted with the tall scary guy. "Y-Yeah, w-we have grass t-too." Magpiekit fumbled on his words, barely eking them out in a whisper. "U-Uhm...I-I don't play many games...I-I like mossball, but I n-never had any friends to pl-play it with..."
When Ravenstar affirmed that the tall stranger was his father, his blue eyes gleamed with hurt and confusion. "...B...But I thought Crowthroat was my dad?" What did she mean that this stranger was his father? Why wasn't he ever in DarkClan? Why didn't he protect him from the scary darkness, like his momma and Crowthroat? "Wh-Why wasn't he ever there like Crowthroat was? H-He can't be my dad!"
Having a brother...that didn't seem half bad- Magpiekit never had any nurserymates until recent. Ravenstar had been his best friend and playmate for many moons. But...why did his mother lie to him? 000 words. tagged.
