Leafbare had been cruel to RiverClan. Not only had they starved due to the frozen rivers, but they'd bitterly lost a battle to WindClan. What more, DarkClan had the audacity to attempt to claim land from them when RiverClan was at its weakest. Only now were they beginning to recover, and slowly at that. The dutiful warrior had eaten significantly less to ensure that the kits and queens were well-fed. If it wasn't for the fact that she had a thick coat of fur, the storm element's ribs and bones would surely be visible.
But now it was newleaf, the time of plenty, and she had a lot of catching up to do. Still the warrior was thin, but she was relentless in her persuit for fresh kill for the clan. There were a lot of little mouths to feed, including the newest element introduced to the valley: Light. While they were still different, Ashsong couldn't resist hoping that she'd have the opportunity to mentor the little one. It would be a testament of her loyalty to RiverClan, and hopefully ensure her place within their ranks. While she'd been with them for some time, Ashsong was still paranoid about getting sent back to WindClan, back to her father, back to...
...she'd just have to keep working harder.
The mouse-colored warrior had been out of camp and hunting for almost the entire day. The sun neared setting, casting an array of golden hues over Rose River as she added to her supply of caught fish. Four perch and a small trout rested at Ashsong's side as the storm element balanced on a boulder on the river bank, eyeing the river patiently. With a flicker of silver, a fish danced dangerously near, and finally Ashsong made her move. With a concentrated source of lightning, the storm element struck the fish and killed it on the spot. With a tender paw, she fished the poor, fried critter out of the water.
Briefly, Ashsong glimpsed up at the setting sun. Her time out here was limited now- time was not enough. While five fish was impressive to most, it would never meet Ashsong's standard. There were so many kits at camp, so many starving figures...she had to work harder. She had to catch more.
This was merely not enough.
