Today was a quiet day.
He'd given Newtpaw the day off - stars knew she needed it - Briarsong was assigning patrols with Ospreypaw, Sagewhisker and Whitepaw were out collecting herbs and Hailsky was up and about again now that she didn't need to stay in the nursery anymore. Which left him with a lot more time on his paws than he knew what to do with. He'd always preferred to be a busy cat, having something to do with his paws helped pass the time. But now that repairs to both the territory and camp were mostly covered by the Newleaf Ceremony, there wasn't much he had to do. The kits were out training, he knew, but he didn't want to impede on their sessions.
Ah, but wait.
Family was always... a touchy subject with him. Ever since Mouseclaw's "attempt", he'd more or less withdrawn from anything kin-related outside of the occasional council from the elders, which consisted of his own parents - which now that he thought about it, it really was a wonder how they were still alive and kicking. And cats thought he was old.
His kin had always preferred to keep their distance from one another, none of his littermates knew why, it was simply the way they were raised. Old clan culture that he never bothered to learn about as a 'paw. He'd been sure to teach the opposite to his kits, both to ensure that they never went through what he endured and so that they knew they had someone to turn to when it seemed as if the entire Valley was against them. Speaking of which...
When was the last time he'd spoken to Crowfang? He'd been sure they were at least in contact with each other but now he wasn't sure if his memory was just failing him or if they genuinely hadn't spoken since they were young. Oops. Well, no time like the present. He's sure to whisper a quick "meet me in my den" to him on his way to the prey pile, trotting back quickly with a thrush as he settled down in his nest. He was the Leader of ThunderClan, he survived both an attack against Ravenstar and a murder attempt from his own kin and lived to tell the tale and survived the Great Fire.
Why was he nervous?
