MAPLEPAW Maplepaw sighed. He was late again! That silly DarkClan cat never knew when to come on time, much to Maplepaw's impatience. She hated waiting so much. When Charcoalpaw gets here I swear I'm going to claw his fur out for making me wait! Maplepaw thought with an annoyed emotion creeping up her veins. But she was exaggerating, she wouldn't actually attack him. Not unless Charcoalpaw gave her a real bad reason to.
As she continued to wait at the ThunderClan-ShadowClan border, she scented a mouse and decided to go catch it. She was hungry, after all. And so, she got into a hunting crouch and crept towards where the mouse was. Once she made it, she pounced onto it, biting the spot in-between the neck and spine. Then Maplepaw returned back to where she was waiting and started eating it before finishing it all fast. Hopefully nobody would find her here.

Considering her history, Briarsong had been very cautious around the ShadowClan border. It was impossible to tell when Sunwing would try and make her next reckless move against her, or ThunderClan, and for what? A bruised ego? Great StarClan!
The tortoiseshell stopped for a moment to help a weakened sprout, gently placing her paw below it to prop it up. Within a few heartbeats, it grew stronger and was able to stand on its own again. ShadowClan always seemed adamant to burn their territory to the ground. Would her work here even matter? It was only a matter of time before someone lit the forest ablaze once more.
Briarsong's attention was pulled to a small white shape among the foliage. Upon closer inspection, the deputy recognized the feline's scent as Lynxstar's daughter, Maplepaw. What could she be doing so far out from camp without her mentor? Had she any idea how dangerous it was to be this close to ShadowClan's border unattended? And eating prey she had caught to add to her charges. Great. Lynxstar was a pawfull enough, now I have to babysit his kits.
"Does Crowfang have any idea where you are, Maplepaw?" She asked, flicking her tail. "And what might you be doing with that mouse?" word count, notes, n stuff

MAPLEPAW The she-cat's fur stood on end due to being startled. Maplepaw turned her head, growing hot from not knowing what to say. How do I lie to say 'I haven't been meeting up with a DarkClan cat'? She thought before responding to Briarsong quite quickly. "Uh no he doesn't and I was going to bring the mouse back to camp but it looked so tasty.." She responsed.
Oh StarClan help me. Maplepaw thought.
The apprentice glanced to the side, hoping Charcoalpaw wasn't anywhere near. Unfortunately for Maplepaw, very faint DarkClan scent was still in the area, and it was strongest near the area Maplepaw was sitting at. "So uh fancy seeing you here but I gotta go-" She started, hoping to run off back to camp.

Briarsong lifted a brow in amusement. "Mm, I don't suppose you could tell me what the third article in the warrior code is, perchance?" The deputy asked. Before the apprentice could answer, she spoke once more. "Elders, queens, sick or injured cats and kits must be fed before apprentices and warriors. Unless they have permission, apprentices may not eat until they have hunted to feed the elders." She flicked her tail.
The tortoiseshell continued. "Were I to ask the elders if they have been fed, or Crowfang if he had given you permission, what answer would I get?" She asked.
"Where do you thi--" She watched as Maplepaw tried to run off. Apprentices! She rolled her eyes and gave chase. The deputy channeled her energy to cast Grasping Vines, hoping to stop the apprentice in her tracks. word count, notes, n stuff

MAPLEPAW Maplepaw ran, not stopping until the ThunderClan deputy grabbed her with her element, and out of being scared by the deputy's vines she blurted something out. "I wasn't meeting with someone I swear!" And after that, she shut her muzzle real quick. Did I just say that?! I'm gonna be in so much trouble now! Maplepaw thought, looking down at her dangling paws."I mean eheheh, what did I say?" The apprentice said, trying to cover her tracks. Oh please, StarClan help me. Maplepaw thought before looking down in defeat. The she-cat had just exposed a somewhat longterm secret of hers, and worse, to the deputy of all cats! She was doomed.

Briarsong was approaching the apprentice when she confessed what other crimes she'd been comitting. Great StarClan, meeting with someone? She hoped for Maplepaw's sake they were simply a friend, and nothing else. Young love could be messy, especially if it was something forbidden.
She sat down next to Maplepaw and wrapped her tail around her paws. "I sincerely hope that whatever you've been doing comes to an end." She meowed. "As Lynxstar's daughter, you play an important role in ThunderClan. If another Clan were to catch wind that you were breaking the code, if Ravenstar--"
Briarsong sighed. "You can explain yourself to your father when we get back to camp. I have sufficient evidence to prove you broke the code once. Whomever you were planning to meet will be sorely disappointed today." The molly flicked her ear. "I'll release you, so long as you promise to not run again. I will not hesitate to leave you tangled in these vines if you start any trouble on the way back to camp." word count, notes, n stuff

MAPLEPAW Maplepaw frowned. "You'd judge my friend based off of what they're element is anyway..." She muttered, almost too quiet to be heard, a defeated and slightly sad expression on her face. The deputy couldn't know she was meeting with a DarkClan cat of all cats, or her fur would really be clawed off. Maplepaw still couldn't believe she spilled out what she had been doing this past moon as an apprentice. Charcoalpaw was kind, yet flirty with her, and she actually quite liked his flirtatious attempts to fluster her.
Though her father would be so angry when he found out who she was meeting with and most likely wouldn't even bother to meet him in cat. "There's a reason why I kept it a secret." She mumbled very quietly once again, still being carried by the vines.

Briarsong pricked her ears up as Maplepaw was mumbling. She sighed as she approached the apprentice, loosening the vines around the molly's legs. The deputy chose to ignore the younger cat's words, hoping a stern lecture from Lynxstar would be enough to deter Maplepaw from making a grave mistake.
"Come along now. Lynxstar and Crowfang can decide on how they'd like to punish you." She meowed, flicking her tail as a signal to follow.
The tortoiseshell deputy shook her head. "It's okay to have friends within the other Clans, but not at the expense of your loyalty or your training." She meowed. "I advise you keep your meetings to the Gatherings instead of losing valuable time with your littermates and your mentor." Briarsong said. "There's plenty of time to catch up under the full moon." word count, notes, n stuff

MAPLEPAW Maplepaw frowned as she was put on the ground. Then the she-cat decided to ask a probably alarming question to Briarsong that would most likely be reported to her father, but she would ask it anyway. "..Why do we hate DarkClan again? They...haven't done anything wrong." Maplepaw muttered in a louder manner. She wanted to know why many cats of the territories hated the dark elementals so much, as to her they didn't do much of anything wrong.
Maplepaw frowned once more as she continued her question. "They're just cats, like us. Right? And even if they are as bad as many say, light can't exist without its opposite, dark. It's only logical for both of them to exist together, just as the sun and the moon exist together. I just...don't get why we hate them." The white she-cat explained before shutting her mouth and waiting for the time she'd be scolded for even bringing up the name 'DarkClan'. |

Briarsong glanced at the apprentice posed her question. Perhaps Maplepaw hadn't heard enough of the Elder's tales. "DarkClan was founded by an extremist." She sighed. "Ravenstar attacked an innocent elder as an apprentice, and thus was promptly exiled. Ever since, she's been nothing but trouble for ThunderClan." Briarsong flicked her tail.
"You're right in noting that darkness is the natural counterbalance to light." She nodded. "However, the problem is the effect this element takes onto it's host. Generations of Dark Elementals show unwarranted aggression towards others." She meowed. "Their element takes hold of their minds, their souls, and corrupts them over time." The words she spoke were not true, but that's what she had been taught to believe since her youth. Briarsong hadn't known anything but anti-dark propaganda. There was no evidence that the element was the cause of history's Dark Elemental revolutions.
If she had been there to witness the events, it would be clear that it was the treatment from others that drove to the start of the first assaults. History had been distorted to match ThunderClan's views on the matter.
"In an act of hatred and defiance, Ravenstar took our peace-talks patrol hostage some moons ago. She then had the audacity to say that we captured her warriors, and thus launched an assault on our territory on a half-moon." She growled. "These are not the acts of someone who claims she vies for peace." Briarsong spoke bitterly. "We have yet to see our missing come home."

MAPLEPAW Maplepaw looked back at Briarsong who had started 'explaining'. That wasn't at all what Charcoalpaw had said. She was also surprised Briarsong wasn't actually connecting the dots within her questions and speech and all that. And Maplepaw also didn't know who was right or who was wrong. "...Charcoalpaw isn't evil..." Maplepaw whispered under her breath, hoping for Briarsong not to hear. Though the deputy might have considered she was a bit louder by accident this time.
Charcoalpaw had told her all about how it's like to be a dark elemental, and to be mistreated by your birth clan - though the exception of this was ShadowClan. Maplepaw wondered which clan was lying; DarkClan, or ThunderClan. However, Maplepaw had always noticed how Lynxstar looked at Ravenstar. Her father seemed to glare at the other leader. That she didn't get. Maybe she'd find answers some other day, though probably not today.
