Move dust through the light to fide your name #### @// Rain fell in ThunderClan camp as the weather began to warm up. It had felt like moons since the valley had gotten anything other than snow. It was a good sign for the Clans. Prey would be returning from their burrows, and his herbs would finally begin to grow naturally and in abundance. Sagewhisker sat outside by the roots of the Great Tree that made ThunderClan’s camp. The most unique camp in his mind, as every other Clan resided solely on the ground. They had much more protection in the trees. They were safer from almost every predator too.
A predator they were not safe from was murderers.
News of Fernbreeze’s death had spread like the wildfire that ravaged their territory in early Leafbare. After inspecting her body, Sagewhisker knew very well that someone had murdered her. And that someone was smart enough to use their claws instead of their element. It would be much harder to trace anything back to the killer. He found it hard to believe that someone would kill one of their Clanmates, but there was no scent from ShadowClan or WindClan on her body. He doubted that Ravenstar would risk sending a warrior into ThunderClan with a battle so close on the horizon. It had to have been one of their warriors.
Sagewhisker just couldn’t understand why someone would want to kill her. Fernbreeze was a good Clanmate. She did her duties well and she was a kind she-cat. After many of their Clanmates went missing along with Ravenstar’s, ThunderClan couldn’t afford to lose any more warriors. And yet they had a murderer in their ranks. This was just great. He had a hard enough time processing Lynxstar’s rash decisions, but trying to balance guiding his leader and finding a killer hiding in plain sight was far too much for one cat to do. He needed to prepare for the coming fight. Why did Fernbreeze have to die so soon? He sighed. Another young warrior stolen from ThunderClan. He would get to see his Clanmate soon enough.
He heard another cat approach. He tilted his ears towards the sound of their paws, not moving his head to see who it was. ”It’s about time we got some rain, huh?” This is not a place. Not yet awake.

Briarsong You wanted it your whole life you're back and forth with life Briarsong padded into camp, a squirrel between her jaws. She took it upon herself to get up before the dawn patrol to try and hunt. She managed to find something to bring back to camp, but she wasn't completely satisfied. She wished she could have brought back more. Thankfully, Newleaf was on the horizon. Soon, everyone would be fed. No cat would have to sleep on an empty belly again. That was her biggest concern for the moment. The tortoiseshell she-cat shook out her pelt before placing her catch on the pile. Someone would be very happy to have some warm prey in this weather.
Her eyes fell on Sagewhisker, the somewhat older tom sat alone in the rain. She flicked her tail. She didn't expect him to be sitting outside in this weather. He of all people would know that that's how you caught a cold. Was he troubled by something? She wasn't overly sure. Perhaps this was about Fernbreeze's murder.
She approached him with a smile. When he spoke, she flicked an ear. "I agree. It's a good sign for us. StarClan is being gracious with this rain. Maybe this leafbare will finally come to an end." She meowed, sitting next to the white medicine cat.
"Might I ask why you're sitting out here in the rain, Sagewhisker?"

Move dust through the light to fide your name #### He nodded at her comment of the long Leafbare. It had been the coldest one he could remember, though he hadn't seen many. Perhabs the elders would agree with him, as they had more experience with the seasons than he did. He wrapped his tail around his paws and shuddered for a moment as a cold breeze ruffled his fur, then looked to the tortoiseshell deputy. "Agreed. Our warriors deserve a break from the cold. Newleaf will present the forest with a chance to heal from the fire as well." He nodded.
"Might I ask why you're sitting out here in the rain?"
He didn't fully know himself.
"Seeking answers, I suppose." He meowed. "Though I don't know what answers the rain will tell me. Perhaps part of me hopes I'll recieve an omen or a sign from StarClan with answers. Something to prove Lynxstar wrong, or the truth behind Fernbreeze's death." He confessed. Sagewhisker knew that the coming battle would bring death. All battles did. As much as he disliked Ravenstar, this whole endeavor was foolish.

- Tall time to call your ma, hey ma, hey ma. -
Briarsong nodded as the white tom spoke. She understood what he meant. Lynxstar was difficult to work with. She didn't get the benefit of training with him when he was Leader apprentice. The cat who was supposed to become deputy had died, and she was chosen to take his place. At times she wished she wasn't. But she was thankful for Lynxstar for choosing her. There were times where her words would be able to influence him to change his mind, but others, they could not. She knew this coming battle was pointless. He was the reason it was going to happen in the first place. If he hadn't lied, perhaps Ravenstar wouldn't have been so furious. Perhaps they wouldn't need to prepare for all of DarkClan to come marching into their territory.
Fernbreeze's death was deeply troubling as well. Briarsong had investigated the scene of her death herself and found nothing. "StarClan will speak when they are ready, I suppose." She meowed to him. "For now, we must find our wisdom in ourselves and our elders." Briarsong said. "If we could change Lynxstar's mind, we would have already. He's a stubborn cat. I wish we didn't have to fight." She confessed. "Ravenstar will be coming during the half-moon, and Lynxstar plans to ambush her patrol. With you gone, we'll have no one to tend to our wounded. That's my biggest concern at the moment." She wrapped her tail around her paws. Template change

Move dust through the light to fide your name #### Sagewhisker smiled briefly and looked at Briarsong. "You're quite wise for a cat of your age. Lynxstar was right to choose you as his deputy, Briarsong." He meowed. As she spoke of Lynxstar's stubbornness, he chuckled. "If we could change his mind ThunderClan wouldn't be on the verge of war with two Clans." When Briarsong pointed out that he was likely going to be at the medicine cat meeting when the battle would start, Sagewhisker nodded. "I know. That's been one of my biggest concerns as well. I'm not sure what I'm going to do here." He confessed. He needed to go to the Moon Falls to speak with StarClan and get answers on the missing cats. But if a battle were to happen, cats could die without his help. It was times like these where he wished he had taken on an apprentice.
"I've been thinking of skipping the coming meeting. If there is to be a battle, I need to tend to the wounded. I can go to the Moon Falls another day, but I can't save lives if I'm not here. We've already lost too many cats this moon." He said. "What do you think I should do?" This is not a place. Not yet awake.

Briarsong felt hot with embarrassment as he spoke of her wisdom. She didn't know how to respond. She was just doing her best in guiding Lynxstar without having the training a deputy apprentice would have received. It was unfortunate her predecessor had died before getting the chance to have their deputy apprentice. Maybe Lynxstar would be better guided. Briarsong pushed away the thought. She was doing the best she could.
She thought for a moment when he asked for her opinion. "I'm not sure, Sagewhisker. Seeking guidance from StarClan at this moment would be beneficial, but if things go wrong in the battle, we could need you. This seems to be, quite literally, a life or death decision." Briarsong meowed. "But I wouldn't want to risk losing someone. I would stay behind." She advised. "I'd want to be ready for the worst." word count, notes, n stuff

Move dust through the light to fide your name #### Sagewhisker nodded as Briarsong spoke. All points she brought up were valid. If he chose to go to the half-moon meeting, some cats could die because of their wounds without him. Moments like these he wished he had an apprentice. It was far too late to start training someone now as well. He would have to skip the meeting. It was the most obvious choice and the wisest thing to do. If StarClan needed to speak to him, they'd send him an omen. His Clanmates took priority. "Thank you, Briarsong. I know now what I must do." He meowed, flicking his tail.
"Staying behind would be the best choice. I should begin preparing now." He meowed. "See you around soon?" He asked, before standing up and making his way to the medicine cat den, shaking out his pelt before entering.
