Emberwing looked up at the sunset, bright colors splashed across the blue sky and tinted the clouds pink. It was almost romantic, except for the fact that his head was in such a terrible pain. He had gone to the Riverclan border to hunt, but missed a mouse and hit his head on a rock. There he was now, lying on the grass and watching the fading daylight while trying to forget the pain. Perhaps he shouldn't have come here, yet a curiosity of other clans had led him here. Rolling over onto his back, he could see the sky more clearly, his glowing amber eyes watching the clouds drift slowly... Before he knew it, he had fallen asleep. Waking up with a jolt, the tabby panicked, but quickly calmed down when he remembered what had happened. The warrior's head was still sore, but it was better. It was still dusk, yet the sun had sunken considerably during his slumber. He gave a yawns and muttered, "Well, that was surprisingly peaceful."

War: it seemed to be the only thing that RiverClan ever discussed.
So when everyone cheekily asked her to go patrol the border every five minutes, Sandwhisker had no choice but to finally give in. They drove her up the walls, really. She saw no point in war, nor did she always respect borders. Really, she didn't care for the code in general: it was StarClan that would guide them, not some silly guidelines made up generations ago. Those things were in the past, they didn't apply today and to the gifts that all cats held in their paws. The pointed warrior was aware of the reasoning behind sending her out on patrol of all cats. Not only did they regard her as "lazy", but they also respected that she got along with, well, everyone. So they wanted intel.
Frankly, she didn't care about digging up dirt. There was no point in declaring war on WindClan: they had the territory, the prey, and therefore the advantage as well. Why not ask such a peaceful clan for help? Surely, Stormstar would feel generous if they only treated him kindly.
Pausing, Sandwhisker suddenly realized that she forgot what she was doing. However, she spotted a figure laying in the grass, and immediately became both curious and concerned. He was smelly, like, WindClan-smelly, but it didn't bother her. Was he ok? Did he get in an argument and lose, resulting in him sleeping outside of camp because he felt embarrassed?
She heard him speak- which was good, because it meant he was alive. What did he mean by "surprisingly peaceful"? Not all RiverClan cats were stuck on the idea of charging into WindClan and stealing prey.
"...What do you mean by 'surprisingly'?" She didn't have a drop of shame, and decided to outright ask him.

At the voice of another cat, Emberwing rolled over again and sat up, "Oh, well I meant that I didn't expect sleeping in a random part of the Valley would be so refreshing." Looking over at the cat, he gave her a sheepish smile. They were a rather pretty she-cat, seeming to come from Riverclan. "Sorry, I didn't properly introduce myself. My name is Emberwing, what might be yours?" He gave a few licks to his pelt until satisfied then looked at the she-cat closely. The cat seemed to be skinnier then normal, then again, all the Riverclan warriors he had seen recently seemed to have the same problem. Perhaps the hunting was poor? Then again, it was Leafbare. "Rough hunting? Your clan doesn't seem to be doing too well..." He wondered if they could do anything to help, maybe offer some extra prey? Strangely, he felt concern for the Riverclan cat, the feeling in his heart was confusing. Emberwing tried to ignore it, but what was it? 20mia08

"I believe that change is refreshing." Sandwhisker commented in an even tone, allowing herself to be seated before neatly wrapping that fluffy tail around her paws. Personally, she had never been daring enough to sleep outside of camp, finding the warmth and comforts of home to make her feel significantly more secure. However, maybe she wouldn't be entirely against the idea? Sleeping under the stars would put her closer to StarClan, she felt. The seal point never recalled seeing the fire-colored tom before, not even at the Gatherings. Was he new? Or had she never been looking hard enough? Regardless, he seemed like a decent cat that she wouldn't mind striking up a conversation with, hence her sitting down instead of deciding to force him out. Would RiverClan be ashamed of her? Yes...but she didn't care. His mention of her thinning body weight made Sandwhisker frown. Ice made fishing difficult- she of all cats would know after falling into those freezing waters earlier. "No...hunting is difficult when our land is small, and our Clan large. Especially with leafbare freezing up streams we need for fishing."Shadowcat

Emberwing listen to the she-cat as she spoke. She hadn't told him her name but that was to be expect, he was a complete stranger after all. His concern continued to grow as she spoke of Riverclan's poor hunting, it was worse than he had thought. The tabby knew that he clan relied mainly on fish for their prey, of course their clan wouldn't be able to catch as much. "At least Newleaf is coming. Windclan could provide some assistance if you needed it, maybe a little help on hunting on land or some extra prey?" Why was he so concerned with with the affairs of another clan? Perhaps it had something to do with the she-cat he was speaking with. "I don't mean to sound rude, perhaps our leaders could speak with each other?" Now he was spouting out nonsense, he knew it wasn't his place but he was just desperate to help. Without noticing, he had moved closer to her, admiring the Riverclanner's blue eyes. Sharp like ice, yet a feeling of compassion and warmth. What was he thinking? 20mia08

She had never seen a pelt as bright as his, not even in RiverClan during the seasons when fish ran well. Sandwhisker never realized how fixated on his coat she was, until it finally hit her that she was staring for far too long for comfort. Shifting awkwardly, she adverted her eyes to a tree in the distance in hopes of making it less obvious. "That would be very kind, but..."Sandwhisker couldn't spoil RiverClan's plans. If she gave away their discussions of an attack, Emberwing might relay the message to his own leader. While she wasn't one for obeying an outdated code, she was still loyal to her clan, and she knew that StarClan would frown upon her for betraying RiverClan outright. "...We've gone through some leadership changes." It was all she could say, for now. Shadowcat

"Hmm... So have we." Emberwing was usually so good with words, but this she-cat seemed to mess him up. "Things have been... rather hectic lately." The wolves ravaging their territory were obviously a concerning matter. He didn't want to pry in other clan's business, and would prefer not to reveal everything that went on in his. "Clan problems aside, how have you been faring?" Perhaps it was rude to ask personal questions to a stranger, but the warrior wanted to know the Riverclanner better. "What about favorite prey?" He seemed to have regained his composure, giving a go trying to get to know the warrior. 20mia08

This conversation was a nice change of pace for Sandwhisker, with discussions including WindClan warriors being either sparse, or hostile. It was enjoyable, really. She didn't mind a deep conversation with her fellow RiverClan warriors, but it always felt the...same. Same problems, same concerns, same aspirations, same everything. "I've been...alright." She had to think on it. Outside of the clan drama, she'd been pretty happy, at least when her ex wasn't around. The idea of being infertile still haunted her like a nightmare, it was a horrible feeling that was constantly looming over her. Even her clanmates seemed to look at her differently. Not all cats wanted to be a mother, but Sandwhisker...she did. "Oh please, Emberwing, I think you know the answer to that. I'm from RiverClan! " She waved a paw as if she was dismissing his question, a small chuckle escaping her jaws. "It would have to be walleye. Not too fishy, but still different from landprey. How about yourself?"Shadowcat

Emberwing gave the she-cat a warm smile, "Walleye huh, I suppose I'll have to try some one day." Pausing for a moment, he settled on an answer to her question. "I suppose mine would be mouse, nothing too fancy. Sweet yet not overwhelming, it's a good meal for when you're feeling down." Glancing back up towards the sky, he studied the fading colors. Looking back down, he spotted a flower, tucked away in the grass. Gently, he parted the soft blades and stared at the serene white petals. "This flower reminds me of you... Gentle and beautiful." Emberwing gave her another smile, a hint of sadness showing in his expression. Maybe if they were from the same clan, but he knew that he shouldn't feel this way.

Simple- she liked that. Everything seemed far too complex and overwhelming as things evolved and changed, including the warrior code as it was. It didn't suit today's style of living. A small smile formed on Sandwhisker's maw as Emberwing spoke about his favorite fresh kill, and it remained until he mentioned the flower, in which she grew warm from nose to tail. The RiverClanner's head bowed bashfully, and her lake-colored eyes began to dilate innocently out of the sheer delight that washed over her. "You're so sweet, Emberwing." Sandwhisker responded softly, taking a few steps closer to the tom. Her clanmates were fueled on the idea of bloodshed and vengeance, they allowed no time for sweet-talk or kind conversations in general. "None of the toms in my clan are nearly as lovely as you are." Growing hot once more, she couldn't resist looking away, feeling guilty of her actions. Yet, she only spoke the truth- what was so wrong with that? Shadowcat

Emberwing was surprised by the she-cat's answer, he had expected her to turn him away. But she didn't. And that made all the difference. He took a few tentative steps forward and closed the distance between them. "Oh my, well. I don't suppose that I have ever seen a cat as beautiful as you." He was suddenly aware of the loud thumping in his chest, could she hear it? "I would... like to see you again." Closing his eyes tight, the warrior took in a long breath. The feelings he had right now, they were strange and confusing, yet warm and familiar. "What are we? Enemies? Friends? Strangers?" He would give anything to be able to stay in this moment forever, but he couldn't. And he shouldn't. Would Starclan approve of this? It was too late now anyways, all that mattered was where his heart took him.

She curled her tail as her chest, beneath thick and pale fur, grew warm from his words. With a small purr, her water-blue eyes flickered back over to Emberwing briefly before keeping her gaze on the ground once more. See him, again? What would happen if her clanmates decided to follow her- would they attempt to initiate a fight and bring him harm? There was no shame in chatting with a cat from another clan, after all, that was what Gatherings were all about. "I think I'd like that, seeing you again." Her voice still quaked the slightest from her cordial purr, but deep down, she felt a pang of disappointment. He didn't mean he was leaving anytime soon, right? They had only just begun to chat!
