While the true mother to the kitten was unclear, it was evident that his biological father did not reside in ThunderClan. He was a perfect little future warrior, with a healthy build and fuzzy fur, yet he lacked one of the most important tools to all cats: a tail. In its place was a tiny stump, the remains of what would have been an appendage used for balance and nonverbal communication. Its lack of existence puzzled and embarrassed the creampuff of a kitten, so he did his best to hide it by frequently sitting on the little stump, to block it from view of any curious spectators. For now, Acornkit rested at the warm belly of his adopted mother, relying on her body heat to block out the chill of approaching newleaf. His ticked tabby kitten fur was growing in well- it as still soft and fuzzy to the touch, but it was becoming quite a bit thicker, for the sake of his survival. When sleep finally left him, the stumpy kitten released a tiny yawn and stretched out his short limbs, sprawling out in the nest. He had only recently acquired the proper balance and coordination to move about the nursery, and he was already eager to see the rest of ThunderClan. However, Acornkit had to admit, he did feel a little shy about it. Did everyone else lack a tail, too? Or was it just him and his brother, Fogkit?

Fogkit idly rolled a moss ball between his paws as he waited for his brother to wake up fr the day. He used to wake Acornkit up himself, back when they had to stay in the nursery, almost all the time, but that was put to a stop when he accidentally rammed into -fur's belly trying wake up his brother. He'd felt guilty about it ever since, even though -fur had assured that it was nothing but the surprise that had startled her.
Fogkit's eyes looked up just as Acornkit finally opened his eyes, he sprang to his paws, eager to finally leave the nursery and start exploring. He was still a little shaky on his legs, but he hobbled over to his brother as fast as he could with an eager smile on his face. "C'mon, Acornkit!” he said, desperately trying to rouse his brother. He gave a sheepish smile to -fur's chiding to quiet down, but gave the same energy to push his brother out of the nursery, his own little stump wagging vigorously.

The stubby kitten's eyes gleamed when his brother attempted to edge him on, but still a lack of confidence washed over him. "But what if they make fun of us?" He whispered with a nervous backwards swiveling of his ears, eyes briefly darting to the nursery's exit before they fell on Fogkit once more. Their foster mom- she had a tail. Why didn't Acornkit have one? Did someone steal it before he could open his eyes for the first time? The insecure kitten shifted several times, but once more, that strong urge to venture into the great unknown nipped at the pit of his stomach.
Acornkit continued to fall back into his own concerning thoughts, but before he could further voice his concerns, he felt his littermate shoving him out the door. Suddenly changing his mind, the kitten flailed against his brother's push, but before he could do much more, he found himself awkwardly flopping into the center of camp. With the ridges above his eyes raised to communicate his whiny mood, the kitten parted his jaws to nag at Fogkit for shoving him out to where everybody could see, but he was unable to force out any words. Instead, he glanced around self-consciously before promptly seating himself in a forceful manner, desperate to hide his missing appendage.
