History
*History: Russetkit and his sister, Sandkit were born to Shell- and a loner named Scorch who'd taken refuge in Riverclan from dogs one sunny greenleaf morning. Scorch abandoned the other three, as he wanted nothing to do with the clan life and refused to acknowledge the kits as his. Russetkit was once an outgoing and confident kit, as well as his sister who looked up to her brother like an idol. This lead to the two of them getting into much trouble, as young kits would do at their age.
One rainy leafbare morning, Russetkit and Sandkit were playing by the riverbend, not too far away from the camp. Sandkit had fallen into the river and hit her head on a rock, knocking her unconscious. Russetkit had raced back to camp in a hurry, screaming and yowling for anyone to help Sandkit before she drowned. Shell-, a warrior and the former medicine cat had demanded that he take them to her, to which he eagerly complied. After Sandkit was retrieved and set into the medicine den, Shell- spent most of her time at her daughter's side. Russekit had tried to visit his sister at least once a day, but had eventually succumbed to his depression, making him much more withdrawn and quiet.
Shell- had tried to make him come out of the shell he had made for himself, but was ultimately unsuccessful. About two sunrises after her near drowning, Sandkit finally woke up. The medicine cat had ruled that due to the excess water in her lungs she wouldn't be able to actually attend either of their apprentice ceremonies or become a warrior. Russetkit stayed by her side and told her of everything she missed while she was unconscious. It was the only time since the accident he'd been somewhat like his former self. Shell- had also stayed by her daughter, and did everything she could without jostling her. They'd stayed that way until the medicine cat asked them to leave. They continued to do the same for almost a moon, where she died in her sleep, choking on the water still in her lungs, the day just before Russetkit's apprentice ceremony.
At the burial, Shell- and Russetkit had refused to speak to each other, instead keeping their eyes on the mound of earth where Sandkit's body was lain. Russetkit left after most of the clan went back to their duties, going to the most secluded part of camp before he began to cry. He blamed himself for Sandkit's death and couldn't believe otherwise. He'd become distant towards his mother and the rest of the clan looked at him with pity. All he wanted was to be able to play with his sister again.
After his apprentice ceremony, Russetpaw began to give more and more effort to making himself heard again, sitting near the other apprentices and making conversation with his mother again, although their talks were brief. Russetpaw tries to visit Sandkit's grave at least every two sunrises, to pay respects to his late sister.
He was apprenticed under Watersong, the clan’s representative at the time. At first, they had a stunted relationship, with Russetpaw being withdrawn and Watersong being a quieter cat than most other RiverClan cats. One day during training, Russetpaw voiced his concerns over his training. He’d began to fall behind, despite him being the oldest apprentice at the time. Watersong sat him down and told him of how they were found by RiverClan, rather than being a Clan born cat.
Their mother was a rogue who had given birth to them and their litter on the edge of RiverClan territory. Their mother and the rest of their litter passed before a patrol could find them, but Watersong had decided that they would live on for the rest of them. Russetpaw took their advice to heart and began to show more of his old self again.
During the coldest leafbare Russetpaw has ever gone through, the river froze over and the clan had no way to thaw it enough for the warriors to fish. RiverClan only had three Fire elementals, one of which was only a kit and the ice was too thick for the other two to thaw without getting exhausted. After a few moo, Shell- and Watersong passed away from hunger. Russetpaw began to fall back into his old ways before he remembered Watersong’s words.
He is now a warrior and serves his clan diligently.
