Primrose would be lying if she said she wasn’t restless ever since arriving in the valley. She’d spent most of her life going from place to place, never staying put for too long. It was strange, not being on the run. She’d found shelter with WindClan and it was starting to feel like a home. She knew the rest of the cats didn’t feel that way about her. She knew many of them were questioning Stormstar’s motives, why would he allow a stranger who couldn’t control her powers into their home? They had problems with wolves in their territory. She was just another mouth to feed in a trying time. They couldn’t afford to keep her around much longer unless the sun finally began to melt the snow. It was an unusually long ice season from what she’d heard. She was beginning to feel guilty, not providing anything in return for them.

She’d taken it upon herself to search for food to bring back to the Clan. Maybe then some cats wouldn’t have as many issues with her presence if she was helping out. Stormstar had ordered her not to go off on her own, but it was early enough for no one to notice she was gone. Primrose gritted her teeth as she shook her neck. The warm, itchy feeling was back. The darkness must be seeping out again. How could she concentrate on hunting like this? Her frustration would only make it worse. This was becoming a common thing.

A patrol in the distance had caught her eye. Was it a WindClan patrol? Their pelts didn’t seem familiar. Yet again, they were a little far off, and she’d only spent a pawful of days in camp. Her ears twitched nervously. The grim reminder of the wolves loose in the territory made her anxious. No cat was to travel alone. It would be better off to join the patrol, though she wasn’t sure if they’d be willing to have her tag along. It was worth a try.

The closer Primrose got, the more she realized that this was no WindClan patrol. They weren’t that thin. They didn’t smell that bad either. She wrinkled her nose. Someone had spotted her. A WindClan patrol was approaching her from behind, but she was more concerned about the strange cat closing in on her. They looked hostile, and Primrose wasn’t looking for a fight. This must be RiverClan. A yowl erupted from the field, and one by one the RiverClan cats began launching themselves towards the cats who granted her shelter. This was a bad place to be right now, and there was no running away when someone had their eyes on her.

Primrose braced herself to fight, unsheathing her claws.
