Alder bark, coltsfoot, cobnuts, horsetail and poppy seeds.
Spiderface repeated the list in his head as he trotted along the river. He would always praise StarClan for settling DarkClan territory right between ShadowClan and RiverClan, the two territories he’d basically grown up in. It was even more convenient that leaf-bare was finally ending, meaning he could finally collect the herbs he wanted to before the cold set in. Even if they won, the battle had left his herb stores low and some cats still hadn’t recovered from the loss of Lilacbreeze, one of the clan’s most senior warriors.
He decided to grab some goat weed on his way back. For now though, he needed more feverfew. He turned his head to call to his companion, ”Make sure you’re careful with that ivy leaf. We’re gonna be carrying everything back with it, so don’t bite down too hard.”

Within a second, the silver tom scrambled from behind the shrub that hid him from the Medicine Cat. Carefully, he carried the plants in his jaws - making sure he didn't break the leaves.
'Of course I won't bite too hard,' the annoyed tom thought. After all, why would he? The warrior was old enough to know what to and what not to do. Alas, he had to swallow his pride. It isn't good to not listen to a Medicine Cat.
Quickly realising he should answer, Jaydust flicked his fluffed tail to show his clanmate he acknowledged him since if he were to speak, all the herbs would fall.
His pale green eyes darted as a mouse ran off away from the river, anxious not to be seen by the duo. Soon after, the warrior's attention was back on Spiderface, catching up.

Spiderface nodded as he spotted a flash of yellow near a stream. He motioned for Jaydust to follow as he sped up a bit, wanting to get back to the warmth of his den. Hopefully, Ravenstar would be in camp, he would need to speak to her soon. He hadn’t seen her since before the Half-Moon meeting. He bent down to take a clump of coltsfoot, patting his paw next to him for Jaydust to set the bundle down. They hadn’t seen any coughs this leafbare, thankfully, but that could very much change between now and New Leaf. He set the bundle down, careful not to tear any leaves before he huffed. ”Look out for any alder bark while we’re still out, will you? It’s dark grey with red cracks. I need to find horsetail, see if the frost hasn’t killed it yet.” he mewed, standing again. Ioana003 |

Jaydust Nodding, the tom followed the Medicine Cat, his eyes searching the surrounding. ‘Dark gray with red cracks,’ echoed the Warrior in his mind. He wasn’t very accustomed to herbs, and he’d hoped he would have only had to help carry them rather than actually find any. But it was for the good of the Clan, so he didn’t have much choice in the matter. His sheathed claws itched as more critters ran by. Newleaf was fast approaching and life was finally beginning to stir. Then, his leafy eyes stumbled upon a slender sapling with a gray bark and reddish cracks. Spiderface looked up from his thoughts at Jaydust’s voice, only to let out a disappointed snort. ”I was hoping it’d be a bigger that this, but it’ll have to do for now. I’ll ask Mistypelt if she can come to see to this one once I get the chance, but help me get the bark off this one,” he mewed, carefully getting to work.
The bark itself was whisker thin, and the sapling was barely getting by itself but it’d get its share soon.

Jaydust Carefully, the dust-gray warrior clawed at the bark. Seeing how Spiderface reacted to the bark, he guessed this wasn’t exactly going as planned - which only made him more irritated; it meant that they’ll likely have to spend even more time searching for herbs, possibly even more boring than being lectured about how to hide in the shadows for the thousandth time simply because someone else couldn’t do it.
“How do Medicine Cats deal with all this, let alone apprentices?” questioned the tom in a low whisper, mostly to himself. “Is this all?
