Looking around the camp, her eyes finally landed on her apprentice, Fogpaw. Trotting towards them, she'd smile, "Fogpaw, how about a training session? It's been a while since we've done any combat." Without waiting for a response, she turned and left the camp, expecting Fogpaw to follow.
Raggedtuft glanced around, ears perked. "Come, Fogpaw." She said, flicking her tail as she walked across a log. "Let's train here yeah?" The calico said with a purr, turning towards her apprentice once she decided they had found a good spot; no one would get hurt, hopefully.
"Have you been practicing?" She asked, beginning to circle the young cat. "I hope you have. I won't be too easy on you today, you know." Ragged said with a smile, crouching down and waiting. Her muscles tensed as she waited for Fogpaw to make a move, a small smile still on her face. "Use your element, too; I want to see your progress." |

Fogpaw had been taking advantage of the warming sun with a few of the other apprentices when Raggedtuft approached him. He gave an eager smile, hopping to his paws and waving goodbye to his friends as he followed his mentor into the territory. He trotted beside his mentor, taking in the sights; they hadn't been her since she first showed him around the territory.
He liked it here, he decided.
His ears perked at Raggedtuft's voice, giving her a sheepish smile. "Somewhat," he mewed. He and Acornpaw hadn't been working on much on anything, to be honest. Mostly taking advantage of their new (albeit limited) freedom. Still, he wanted to try, so he readied himself. "Rah!!" he yowled, as he took a running start for his mentor. His Gust gave him somewhat of a spring, as he aimed a swipe at his mentor's ears.

The she-cat only shook her head with a smile. "Don't worry, you'll do fine." Raggedtuft purred.
Almost not expecting him to use Gust, the warrior waited a heartbeat too long to move. He was quick, that was for sure. She barely had time to duck and move away. "Not bad; for an apprentice." She teased, this time running at him herself. Using the wind to gain speed, she made sure her claws were sheathed before swiping at him, hoping he remembered some of the moves she'd shown him before. "Remember to stay balanced. Losing your balance and falling may get you injured during a real battle."
Raggedtuft would leap back, watching him. "Keep your tail low, and your belly unexposed."

Fogpaw allowed himself a moment of pride before he readied himself again, ducking and rolling under her swipe and responding with two of his own. Her comment about his tail caught him off guard; he didn’t have much of one to begin with so he wasn’t quite sure how to deal with that instruction.
He decided to ask her about it afterwards, and focused on the “belly” part, keeping his hindparts low. He danced around Raggedtuft for abit before he feinted left and darted to her right, lunging for her with a playful growl. ”How’s this for an apprentice?!” he said.

Raggedtuft did a double take as she realized her fatal mistake. She'd forgotten he didn't have a tail. "I- Great Starclan, Fogpaw, I am so sorry. Just...Forget I said anything about a tail." She said, ears pinning down in embarrassment. Her gaze followed him as the apprentice circled around her, ears perking up as he suddenly lunged at her. Though, he did manage to trick her by faking a direction, causing her to nearly fall over.
With a shake of her head, she'd quickly - but still as gently as she could - push him away, taking a few steps back to distance herself. Raggedtuft stared at him for a heartbeat before rushing at him, rearing up on her hind legs and towering over the apprentice, paws outstretched. Her claws were sheathed, as always.

He gives a laugh. Unlike Acornpaw, Fogpaw wasn’t all that concerned about the business of having a tail or not. All that matters was that he was a cat, right? Who cared about all the other boring, extra stuff? He caught himself as he was pushed away, metaphorically giving himself a pat on the back for catching her off guard, though was caught under Raggedtuft’s attack, falling to the ground with an “oof”. He wasn’t paying attention.
Oops.
He tries to kick her off with his hind legs, using Gust to do so.

Her panic had died down as the young feline brushed her comment off, a sense of relief washing over her. A grin spread across her face as her attack landed, but her small sense of pride was short lived as she was suddenly pushed off, the air almost being knocked out of her lungs as she fell back. She honestly hadn't seen that coming. Once again, pride swelled in her chest; he was doing much better than she anticipated.
"Great job, Fogpaw." Raggedtuft commented, rolling onto her paws quickly, regaining her stance.

He gives a wide and cheeky smile as he rolled back onto his paws. He was proud of himself; it wasn’t every day that one managed to hold their own against their mentor, no matter how long it’d been since he was apprenticed to her. ”Good enough to not have to take out the elders’ bedding tonight?” he asked cheekily. Some things never changed, it seems.
He retook his stance again, spreading his paws out jokingly as he waits for her next move.

Raggedtuft snorted, holding back a laugh. "You know what? Sure. No cleaning out the elders bedding tonight, Fogpaw. But you better keep up with practicing, otherwise I'll assign you to an entire moon of cleaning out their bedding." The warrior said with a smile, glancing around to observe her immediate surroundings. There wasn't much she could use, and instead chose to rush at the apprentice, leaping over him at the last second, attempting to land behind him and kick his paws out from under him.

He’d been unsuspecting of the surprise attack, seeing as he was mentally celebrating being relieved of his duties for the day, and had been kicked a good fox length away with a grunt. He hopped back onto his paws and began to circle her, trying his feinting trick again before he ran at her again and leapt at her with outstretched paws. His claws were sheathed, as always, but he was hoping to land this hit.

Her eyes were locked onto him, seeing through his feint and leaping to the side, dodging his attack and turning towards him, crouching down, once again watching him. She thought of different ways she could quickly win this spar, but this was about Fogpaw. Despite his lack of tail, he had surprisingly great balance; better than some warriors that did have tails.
"Come on, Fogpaw! Is that all you've got?"

He gave a barking laugh and began to run full speed at Raggedtuft, leaping up at the last second to dart beside her and aiming a few swipes at her sides. He jumped back afterwards and skidded back a few feet, panting ain’t exhaustion. He didn’t want to stop yet, though; when one of them, most likely him, was laying on the ground, then he would stop. This was getting fun, now, though.

She hadn't expected him to attack so...boldly. The warrior assumed he was going to attack head on, rearing up to meet the feline before he darted to her side, nearly knocking her over again. The she-cat turned to face him, slowly beginning to circle around the young cat. Fogpaw was good at hiding what he intended to do. "You are doing very well, Fogpaw!" She praised, giving him a moment before she attacked.
Bounding towards him, she would stretch out a paw in an attempt to knock him over.
