It had been a while. And during that while nothing went right. RiverClan was still starving and now they had an enemy clawing at their door, ready to tear it down and spit in the faces of Bumblepelt’s clan. Death was around the corner for them anyway, what else could an entire Clan of well trained, well fed Warriors do but watch with gleeful eyes as this Clan staved more and more. Barely two sunrises ago another Warrior fell to their hunger and whatever family there was left aided in the Bog Burial. Six Warriors. Six lives that may have chosen him to represent his Clan and this tom did nothing but wrong. Or did the Clan do it to themselves?
Desperation clung to everyone’s fur and much more on Bumblepelt’s. Worry, anxiety, fear all tugged at the representative’s paws as they knitted into the soft mud of the camp. There were a few ideas that sometimes sprinted through the tom’s head but none stuck. Or none were “leader” enough. But when would a Leader stop sitting still and losing a life to the same starvation that plagued his Clan and finally do something about?
“All cats old enough to swim against the current-” started the tabby with sadness gleaming in his eyes “-please gather at the Low Pond for a Clan Meeting.”
Cats slowly walked out to the Low Pond but Bumblepelt couldn’t wait for long. Not anymore.
“I’m aware that it has been a while. And nothing has really changed- at least for the better. And I apologise for, well-” he paused as his gaze swept all the cats gathered around “I apologise for not doing anything. I know it’s been horrible. I’m sorry.” He sighed, his head drooping between his shoulders. In the reflection of the water he saw his face, ragged and sunken. His stomach ached, yowling for a mouthful of feathers that could at the very least ease the pain.
“But I know that sorry won’t cut it,” began the representative again. “Something has to be done about this. Hare Plains still isn’t ours but… A piece of territory won’t magically solve all our problems!” The tom almost shouted, the intensity in his voice scaring him a little. But he was right. Half the Clan wouldn’t be able to hunt there. He wouldn’t be able to hunt there. “Which is why we’ll be hosting another vote. Not to attack WindClan - those fishbreath know-it-alls.” Admittedly that insult was whispered out rather than spoken aloud.
“We’ll be voting on separating the Hunting Patrols into two types: Land Patrols and River Patrols. River Hunting Patrols are as normal, we go out fishing. But Land Hunting Patrols will have cats who can hunt on land catch prey like mice or maybe even robins. However-” Bumblepelt sat down, his tail swishing over the water surface onto his paws. Worry passed through him again. “-that means that our Earth Elementals will have to teach some of us how to hunt land prey, which won’t be easy. But it could mean doubling what prey we can eat. Plus, the alternatives are… more than dire.”
He stopped. There wasn’t anything else to say but his mind began twirling again, thinking and worrying. For the next few silent seconds, Bumblepelt had forgotten to dismiss the meeting. Soon, he realised the Clan was still waiting - still watching. With a quiet yelp, he finally added “Please head to the Medicine Cat Den to vote on the options: stay as we are and find another alternative or learn new skills to survive.”
As he pounced from the rocky spot he sat in the middle of the puddle, all the tom could think about was how stupid he was for forgetting he had to dismiss the meeting. His anxiety was now about what the Clan thinks about him rather than the vote, which, for the tom, felt much more normal.

As the call reached her ears, Otterpaw perked up. She darted from where she was chasing a butterfly to where Bumblepelt sat and settled down as much as she could.
By that, she meant that she practically buzzed on the spot with excitement as she bounced on her paws, wondering what Bumblepelt was going to talking about.
When Bumblepelt spoke, however, she was surprised by the sadness in his voice. Enough so that she actually let herself settle down a little, stopping the incessant movement of her body, and listened intently. She blinked as Bumblepelt began apologising for not doing anything. "It's okay!" She yowled out, completely unaware of how inappropriate it was to yowl in the middle of a clan meeting. "Everyone makes mistakes sometimes!"
Bumblepelt then spoke again, and Otterpaw felt excitement bubbling up her throat. Bumblepelt had an idea! There was something to be done about this situation, and according to him, it didn't include fighting WindClan! That was a relief. Otterpaw did not like the fighting.
Otterpaw went right back to bouncing with excitement when Bumblepelt suggested they could have both Land and Water patrols. She would love to learn more about hunting on land! Even as she glanced towards her Mentor, Russetleaf, she had already decided on her vote. She would be voting for the Land Patrols option.
Bounding into the Medicine Cat Den, Otterpaw placed her vote.

BadgerpawAt first, the smoke coloured tom was… unsure at best. He was already barely learning how to fish, whether or not he wanted to, but on top of that, learning how to hunt on land as well? And there were barely any Warriors fit or knowledgeable enough to teach. Was this really a good idea? Well, his vote probably wouldn’t matter. It was in the claws of his clanmates. Slowly, he walked to the Medicine Cat Den. Thinking, he almost bumped into Otterpaw. She seemed so sure in herself, like the world wasn’t a river you’d always swim against. One which the Apprentice feared even thinking of. But Badgerpaw kept thinking, after a quick “S-Sorry,” and realised what Land Patrols meant to him: staying as far away from the water as possible; staying as far away from fishing and, hopefully, his father. Maybe, just maybe, Bumblepelt’s idea wasn’t as terrible as it seemed. --------------------------------------------------- Voting for the Land/Water Patrol split. - There's blood on the crown -
Reedtail grumbled as he heard Bumblepelt call a Clan Meeting. It came to no surprise that he was one of the cats among the Clan who...disliked the skittish tom. The Senior Warrior didn't believe he was suited to be Representative, and he couldn't wait for the next election to vote him out of power. Hell, he might even run himself.
The black tom sat down and wrapped his tail around his paws, listening to his idea. It wasn't completely stupid, however he'd much rather take back the Hare Plains again. With the warmer weather, they were starting to get a little stronger, and more territory meant this hunger that wiped out a good portion of the Clan wouldn't happen again.
Reedtail got up to cast his vote, and much to Willowbranch's surprise, he was in favor of Bumblepelt's proposition. It would be a temporary fix, but he'd be certain to push to reclaim some territory eventually.
Bumblepelt couldn't be a coward forever. Reedtail voted to support!

Roseprance
The calico turned her head away from one of her clanmates at the sound of the representative calling for a meeting. Glancing at the feline she was talking with, she'd head towards the crowd and sit down, listening intently. She was intrigued to say the least. Land patrols and River patrols sounded interesting. Not only could they get more prey for the clan, but her own apprentice would be able to stay away from the water.
The awkwardness of Bumblepelt didn't help her concerns, though. As the clan meeting came to an end, she made her way to vote. She was in favor, of course. She wondered about her clanmates. Would they be willing to hunt on land to help the clan? Or would they be stubborn? Despite her annoyance that they had lost the battle for hare plains, she got over it quite quickly, but she knew the other cats may have not.
Crowlight
Waking up from a nap, her ears perked up as Bumblepelt announced a clan meeting. The tabby almost didn't want to get out of her nest, but she forced herself to. It wasn't that she didn't like the tom, but she didn't like the tom. He was awkward, and not very professional. But then again, who was she to judge him for that?
Sitting at the edge of the crowd, she listened quietly, ears flattening as she did. Land and River patrols? Would that not just make it all that more stressful for the clan? The idea was decent, but she didn't deem it practical. The feline shook her head, sighing as she stood and made her way to the medicine cat den to vote. Despite disliking the idea, it'd still bring in more prey. She'd vote in favor, surprising even herself.

Russetleaf cast a mirthful gaze at Otterpaw's outburst, purring in amusement. He listened intently, eyes trained on Bumblepelt as he thought. Land and River Patrols? Most of them were Water elementals and there weren't many Earth Elementals in the clan to begin with, even before the Freeze. The idea was well meant but the strain it would cause on the Earth Elementals....
After a momeent of thought, he padded over to the Medicine Den. Work had to go into this plan and he wanted to see this through.
Pebblefoot, on the other paw, wasn't as sold on the idea. They had the means to go to battle now, they didn't need to adapt anymore than they already had. The only reason his fire was so weak, he'd convinced himself, was because during Leafbare was because of his hunger. They were fuller, stronger now. They could show those know-it-alls what RiverClan could do. He goes to the Medicin Den to vote, tail swishing behind him.

He never did like fishing with others, as it meant more time spent in those proud water elements who uttered jabs under their breath. He had always stuck out of the clan like a sore thumb, partly because of his reclusive attitude, partly because he was a dark element. It was mostly the latter. He watched their representative deliver the spiel through a pair of narrowed eyes, as if he was scrutinizing Bumblepelt for his wording. In truth, Frostwhisper had made up his mind as soon as the tom mentioned the concept of separate patrols. The platinum-furred warrior was confident in his land-prey hunting skills, certain that he could teach himself to catch land prey without the assistance of some earth element. While he did enjoy fishing and swimming, he'd jump at any opportunity to further isolate himself from water elements.
And so already the rosetted tom had made up his mind. He needn't another moment to think on it. Frostwhisper promptly rose to his paws, a ghost-like presence that weaved between his clanmates without regarding them, without being regarded. He journeyed to the medicine cat den, so that he could vote in favor of the patrol separation in order to save himself from the shaming of water elements as he attempted to fish.
Overall, Ashsong found herself feeling...indifferent over the matter. Hunting was hunting, and one way or another, she'd dutifully ensure that her clanmates continued to have a full belly, no matter how much hunting time it took on her part. The storm element had nothing to lose outside of her reputation, a status she worked so hard to improve since she joined RiverClan as a runaway. When it came to fishing, she didn't have the privilege that the typical RiverClan water elements had. Ashsong, as a talented storm element...well, she couldn't just fry the river with electricity. That would kill everything. As a result, she couldn't use her element for fishing and had to rely on traditional methods- tooth and claw.
The warrior twitched an ear thoughtfully. Hmm... Hunting on land might propose an opportunity for the warrior to use her unusual skill, a situation that might work in her advantage when it came to ensuring her spot in the clan. It might prove for better hunting, wielding cats that weren't strictly water elements and exploiting their elements. It was about time RiverClan made such a change. Ashsong, after a long period of thought, decided to vote in favor of the split patrols.
Meetings always made the laid-back warrior somewhat anxious, given her...erm, recent presence near the WindClan-RiverClan border. She had been tight-lipped about her sudden increase in activity in an effort to visit a tom that made her heart flutter. Sandwhisker never supported the code and instead stuck to the concept of following her heart, which she believed that StarClan would support. Love knew no boundaries.
Fortunately for her, this sudden meeting was not about any suspected border activity, and instead, it was only about hunting. Sandwhisker shouldn't have felt bothered by it- it was just about hunting, and the plan was rather flattering to the earth-element warrior. However, it posed a problem: land hunting. Potential conflict with WindClan. More RiverClan patrols by the WindClan-RiverClan border. It would threaten her meetings Beetlerunner, despite how harmless mere hunting patrols sounded. She couldn't risk it. She loved him too much.
The seal point held her breath. She expected that any other earth element might have voted in favor of the specialized hunting patrols, but she would instead vote against them.
