The orange and black she-cat lead her apprentice to the chosen training area, a small smile adorning her face. "Come on, Badgerpaw." She'd say, turning her head back to the young feline as they walked. "Here we are! Would you like to begin, or should I?" The warrior turned, taking a few steps back to get into position.
The warrior had only recently recovered from the death of her adopted kit, and a real training session with Badgerpaw was long overdue. She was thankful to the other warriors for helping her train him when she couldn't do it.
"I hope you practiced, Badgerpaw. I'm sorry I haven't been a good mentor."

Badgerpaw
“Oh, erm-” stammered the Apprentice. Up to that point, he hadn’t had any training sessions with Roseprance, and he’d be lying if he said he wasn’t anxious. Of course, the tom knew the Warrior was one of the kinder Warriors but, well… What if she didn’t like him? Had he really practiced enough? He tried but nothing happened, and he’s just as awful at controlling any fire. There was that one fight with the Ice Apprentice but still. Maybe it would’ve been better if his mentor had someone else as an Apprentice.
While he was thinking, his tail swivelled rapidly left then right then left again and so on. The she-cat didn’t look like she hated him already, but there was some sadness behind her moves. It was known by many that the Warrior had lost a kitten recently. But the smoke coloured tom didn’t have time to ponder any longer. His paws had almost dug themselves into the grass because of all the kneading.
“O-Oh, yes, I did… practice. A-And you don’t have to apologise! It’s not… It’s not your fault,” added Badgerpaw quickly. “And, well- if you want to start, I guess- I mean, sure, you can start!” He was stuttering after every breath. It wasn’t even that he didn’t talk much, quite the contrary, although to his fast-beating, anxious heart. No one really stopped talking in RiverClan and, while he appreciated every moment of silence he could get, he still chatted more than what other cats at Gatherings seem to. His brain just moved too quickly for his words to come out right.
After another moment of silence, a tiny amount of smoke rippled through his fur as he sat down, slowly. No matter how much he trained against with - with or without a mentor’s help - this tic of his never went away. His ears pulled back as he listened to Roseprance quietly.

Roseprance noticed the apprentices nervousness, and she'd choose to take on a more relaxed pose. "Hey, Badgerpaw, it's okay. Take your time, okay? You're not be tested, you aren't doing an assessment. We'll go at your own pace, alright? I promise." She'd give him a smile, tilted her head slightly. "Why don't you just show me what you already know, and we can branch off from there instead? That way it's easier for you. I heard you're having some trouble with your fire; do you want to start with that?" The feline offered, her voice taking on a motherly tone.
She could practically feel the anxiety radiating off of the young apprentice. She knew he'd always been nervous, but she hadn't known it was like this. Perhaps she could help him with that as well outside of training. Her own kit had slight anxiety, and the she-cat knew better than to push cats like them. Though, a little nudge here and there may help. She'd stay crouched, awaiting his reply. As badly as she wanted to train him to be a warrior, she was definitely more than happy to go at his own pace.

“O-Okay. I can start with fire I guess- Maybe?” mewed the Apprentice slowly. There wasn’t a lot tom knew, really. He had Spark, but everyone had that, and Small Fireball, which still wasn’t impressive at all. Maybe just burning something with Spark would be enough to at least be okay? Badgerpaw took a slight breath before poking the ground with his paws. It was still humid around and nothing really caught fire. It was hard to even tell what he was doing. And then the ground hissed and he hissed back as a small fire bounded upwards. Red like Leaf-fall leaf, it leaped and balled around the grass, and the Apprentice quickly walked back. His fur may have been less likely to alight, but it was still a possibility. If his ears spelled stress, they screamed it now. They shuffled back and then forth and then one up and then both so close to his head it was almost impossible to tell whether the tom had ears to begin with. One glance up was all he gave his mentor before slowly raising his paw to his shoulders and quickly tapping the flame. It circled a bit more before going back to its previous size. Good thing cats didn’t show sweat, otherwise his fur would be damp from the stress as he, again, tapped the fire quickly to put it out and, defiantly, it clawed back up. A quiet “Oh no...” escaped the cat’s jaws as he, for a third time, tried to put the fire out in the same way. Perhaps starting with Spark wasn’t as great of an idea. simonwho

Roseprance watched her apprentice with curious eyes, tilting her head to the side. She couldn't exactly tell what he was doing, or trying to do, but she didn't question it. Every cat had different methods, and - oh. "Badgerpaw, calm down!" She'd say, ears pinning back. "I think maybe we should start with something el-" Her voice was cut off as she noticed the amount of stress the young tom was in, as well as the fire just would NOT die. Quickly, she'd rush forward and put the fire out herself before it hurt him, or started to spread. "Okay, that...could have ended badly. Noted that we have to work on your control." Roseprance said thoughtfully, giving Badgerpaw a reassuring smile. "Lets try normal fighting, yeah?" Perhaps that'd be easier to start with, and she could ease him into using his element. His timid personality was certainly new to the warrior, but she was more than determined to train him into a fine warrior. Ioana003

BadgerpawHe looked down at the ground. Fighting wouldn’t be any easier, either. While other Warriors offered to help him, he was still… quite weak and inexperienced. Plus, how could he train his fighting moves when his fire ability still lacks control? What if he accidentally burned the forest down! Or worse… But the Apprentice could see that his mentor meant well. There was genuine concern and care behind her eyes. And she spoke so softly and nicely. Maybe it was worth a try? “Sure…” whispered Badgerpaw. His paws still kneaded at the ground, tearing slightly at the burnt grass. “I’m-” he began quietly. “I’m not sure where to… start?” His eyes darted upwards, looking at Roseprance with anxiety. No one really helped him. If anything, he’s gotten more in trouble. Well, no one knew about that trouble. He continued to knead at the ground, a slight stream of silvery smoke flying up from his swishing tail. simonwho

Her head tilted. Again. "Just start attacking me. Show me what you know already, and we'll just go from there." Roseprance said with a smile, "Or, I can show you new moves and you can try those on me, if you'd prefer. Meanwhile, remember to keep the fire under control. Fire is a very difficult element; it's easy to destroy with it." She'd remind him, pointing towards the small patch of charred ground from his Spark.
"See? Fire is very destructive."

BadgerpawWorry was thrust onto the young tom’s face even more as he suddenly stopped kneading. He glanced, silent as a mouse, to the scorched grass he left, now dark like coal, staring back at him as if it were another pair of black eyes, judging. Fire was destructive in more than one way. Gulping, he looked back at his mentor. How was he supposed to attack her? Even if they were pretending, she was just so- so nice and kind. Badgerpaw could never imagine trying to claw at her. He didn’t want to imagine her bleeding crimson, staining her night-coloured pelt more red and- His body shook itself, trying to get any image of Roseprance looking like that out of his head. He tried to make it busy, buzzing with other thoughts, but in the end, it stayed quiet, refusing to give even a thread of any thought. How long had it passed? He was supposed to train but the apprentice shivered. Was the day already gone? It felt so cold so suddenly. Mumbling, Badgerpaw gave a brisk “Um” before awkwardly shuffling a little further away. Although trying to concentrate, the tom was just so alone inside. No, he had to keep moving, stumbling a little, and keep focus on what was happening. Loudly, a raven kronked a distance away, startling the apprentice, both his fur and smoke rising quickly as he jumped to look towards the noise. Looking back at his mentor, he half-panicked, thinking that after all her help, he’ll still end up disappointing her today. Without much thought, he crouched and pounced on his mentor, rather poorly, trying to salvage at least a little of the training session. simonwho
