Forty moons he’d spent his life in exile.
Forty moons he had time to think, to reflect on his actions.
Forty moons had come and go. Forty damn moons, and he hardly had anything to show for it.
The siamese feline began his descent down the mountain, a journey he knew his ancestors had done moons ago. Far too long ago for anyone to have remembered what it was like. The same ancestors who had forsaken him. How many of his former comrades had died? How many still stood tall?
His new companions proved better worth, and they were powerless.
His initial plans had failed. He had no perfected elemental army. His cats had nothing. But it was their hunger for power that made it so much better.
He brought with him from beyond the mountains his most trusted, most elite companions. Each of these cats showed potential. Each would obey his every command. The feline needn’t explain why.
Fear.
Fear brought control over his companions, and so fear would bring control over the valley that had forsaken him. He perfected his element far beyond what any cat in the valley could ever dream of achieving.
He would have his vengeance soon enough.
Reaching the base of the mountains to the north, his plans would begin.
”Viper,” He said, flicking an ear.
Soon, a black feline approached, keeping a tail-length distance between them.
”Have your fun. Let them know that we have arrived.”
The cat nodded, quickly darting away to the direction of the marsh.
”The rest of you lot, set up camp in that location we scouted in the mountains, not too far of a walk from here. I want the valley to be accessible.”
The quiet evening in RiverClan was soon spoiled, a horrified cry ringing out through the camp. It was Hailfall. The spotted warrior ran across from the warriors’ den to the corpse that had just been delicately placed.
Streamflower had been murdered.
Cats swarmed the arriving patrol, demanding answers for the death of the older molly. Some shouted WindClan, others DarkClan, wanting to pin the crime on one of their disliked neighbours.
Someone from the patrol broke the argument.
”Her body was washed up along the rocks of the stream in the heart of our territory. Neither Clan’s scent was around.” They meowed.
Some cats turned to Bumblepelt, others turned to Willowbranch, hoping to hear something from their leadership.

Otterpaw rushed up to the patrol, concern on her face. She opted not to swarm the group, instead calling out that "It can't have been them! Why would they want to start more war?" However, remembering what Sharppaw had said to her at the Gathering, she had a sinking feeling that the other clans may not have the same desire to avoid conflict that she did. She just really hoped Sharppaw wasn't involved, she did not want to have to deal with knowing a friend was a murderer.
That was why she gave a huge exhale of relief as one of the cats explained that neither clan's scent was found nearby. "Alright, thank goodness..." She murmured to no one in particular, then went up to the patrol. The somber mood was not something she liked, and she hoped to break that up.
"Hey-At least Streamflower's with the stream now, yeah?" Otterpaw attempted to crack a joke at the situation, which is predictably not going to end too well for her.

Hailfall shook his head as the cats spoke, burying his head inside of his mother's pelt, tears running down his face. He couldn't believe she was gone...he couldn't believe she was murdered. Who would do such a thing to her? Who would hurt someone like her? He gently groomed the fur around her killing wound, a large gash in her neck. He flattened his ears, knowing that it was too small to have been one of the wolves roaming in WindClan. This was done by another cat. Hearting Otterpaw's words pushed him over the edge. He spun around to face the apprentice, summoning a small barrier of ice spikes close to the smaller molly's neck. "How dare you speak like that?!" He snapped, pushing it closer. "Maybe you'd like to join her?" He growled. Talis

Russetleaf immediately rushed over, standing in front of Otterpaw protectively. ”There’s no need for that! She’s still an apprentice and your clan mate, minnowbrain, so back off!” he hissed. He didn’t like being this angry, or being upset at all, but it seemed someone needed to set the record straight. He turned to Otterpaw sternly, ”There is a time and a place for jokes, and this is not the time. Show some respect, alright?”TalisThorne

Otterpaw blinked up at Hailfall, her face full of confusion. Back when she and Lily- thought their parents were dead, she had moved on quickly and helped Lily- to move on as well with her cheerful attitude. She guessed Hailfall was just different in that aspect then. "Sorry..." She told Hailfall, not sounding as sorry as she probably should be, but she was too busy puzzling over his lack of humour. A pauss, then she glanced to Russetleaf. "Thanks for that." She added quietly, glancing towards Hailfall again. Her heart broke to see another cry, but at least she had the sense to know that she wouldn't be walking to a very good future if she went over right now.

Of course the bastards would blame the mess on DarkClan. Frostwhisper kept his distance from the arguing cats, his body language tense to communicate the obvious offense he felt. Sometimes, he wished he had abandoned RiverClan long ago and joined DarkClan like all the rest of the fed-up dark elements, but he would miss the sound of the rivers far too much. And he still had his pride- his family had lived in RiverClan for generations, and it would be dishonorable of him to leave the clan that his family had called home. At least, that was what he believed. His parents never stepped forward to claim the dark element kitten as their own. "Why the hell would DarkClan even bother with us? Why- because they're your boogie man with their 'scary' and 'new' dark element? Are you a bunch of elders?" He couldn't hold back his seething rage, eyes narrowing into a pair of judgmental slits as he sprang to his own defense. "They have the entirety of ThunderClan to pick fights with. WindClan has beef with us- if any clan, it would be them. Their diplomacy has to be a façade- I'm sure one of their arrogant warriors finally snapped. Lest they sicked their mangy wolves onto our territory." The silver-and-charcoal warrior allowed his cold and unwelcoming gaze to dart between the warriors, as if prepared to enter a skirmish for defending his own StarClan-cursed element. Pebblefoot spoke up next, "And what good would they have with our territory, huh? Are they gonna blow the fish out of the water? They still have Hare Plains, if you haven't noticed. We starved over it? Does that jog your memory?" he sneered, lashing his tail. "They have no reason to kill anyone, they're all too cowardly to. Ravenstar's always been breathing down our necks about "her" territory, I wouldn't be surprised if she sent one of her warriors to do her dirty work to make a point."20mia08ThorneTalis

Otterpaw started as the clan turned to discussing who to blame. They all seemed pretty cool at the Gathering. If not for the recent fight maybe I could have made friends with them. She thought to herself. "Guys, maybe we should consider that it wasn't a clan cat? Might be a rogue, might be a twoleg, miht be some predator..." She called out, not wanting to turn blame towards either DarkClannor WindClan. She didn't want more war! She wasn't one who thought much before speaking, as always, and had already forgotten about the earlier dispute over her lack of respect for Streamflower. She only knew she didn't want to dislike either other clan.

BumblepeltAfter a long, hard Leafbare, Bumblepelt thought that everything was finally coming to a close. There was a plan and the first and foremost worry (food) was slowly being solved. He was sunning himself in what little light there was in the evening when the dry, heavy air surrounding the entering patrol hit him. Something was very wrong. And the sharp cry of Hailfall confirmed the tom’s worst fears. Streamflower had died. Chaos, of course, ensued. Cats yowled, wanting justice. It was no accident: from the clawmarks left it was obviously from another cat. One of RiverClan’s she-cats had been murdered. Through the shouting and blaming, one of the Warriors explained there was no scent of any Clan. And from the looks of it, no remnant, either. Which was more than worrying, but somewhat expected, especially if the cat washed up by a river. Before the tom could speak anything, more cats started meowing. Otterpaw was the first, making a rather crude joke, which Hailfall did not take lightly. Luckily, Russetleaf stepped in before the Apprentice was harmed. Then, Frostwhisper started arguing as to why it would have had to be WindClan, while Pebblefoot hissed back as to why it was DarkClan. “Everyone, quiet!” exclaimed the Representative. Many were staring at him, waiting, by that point, and he had to step in, if not so no one else got hurt. “We will prepare for a Bog Burial, for Streamflower. But for now I want Willowbranch to examine her body and see if there’s any clue as to the murderer. And make sure it wasn’t something like a Badger however...” he took another look at the she-cat. Everyone, even him, knew that this train of thought would have been a lie; but a lie to perhaps ease some was still better than whatever was happening at that moment. “... unlikely it is,” he continued. “And if it was a Clan, both DarkClan and WindClan are just as likely, so let’s not pick fights when we can’t afford to. No matter their element, they are still a threat.“Until then, I want two patrols out to ensure the territory is safe. Check around the contested zones first and if you catch any scent or element of another Clan, report back immediately.” He nodded at a couple of the healthier Warriors. Getting the borders under check was his main concern. If this was an out-right attack, they wouldn’t be sitting there discussing. They would be fighting tooth-and-claw. Whatever happened here was a warning. “Once we know our borders are safe and there’s no trace of anyone outside RiverClan, we will go back to focusing on food and getting everyone healthy. We’re RiverClan and I know at full strength we will manage to fight off whoever did this, but right now we aren’t. In the meantime, make sure that whenever you go out, you’re with at least another Warrior, patrol or not.”Under his breath, he also added “As if Leafbare wasn’t enough already.”Bumblepelt nodded his head one more time, perhaps a little unnecessary, but he meant it to dismiss everyone. He crouched close to Hailfall and talked in a quieter, more gentle tone: “Let’s get Streamflower ready for the Burial. And please don’t harm Otterpaw, I’m sure she meant no harm. This is just how Apprentices are sometimes.”He turned to face Russetleaf and Otterpaw. The tom twirled his tail as thank you towards the Warrior but began meowing to Otterpaw: “You should know not to disturb or joke about someone’s death. While I appreciate your willingness to speak your thoughts, Otterpaw, it wasn’t the best timing. Because of this, you’ll have to clean the Apprentices’ Den in the morning and bring new moss.” In a whisper, he also added: “But I’ll make sure Hailfall makes it up to you for his outburst when he feels better, alright?”In the meantime, he had roughly two hundred other concerns and questions zipping through his head. -------------------------------------------- Thorne Blaze Talis 20mia08

He tore up the dried, semi-brown grass at his paws as his fellow warrior had the audacity to shoot back a retort. Of course- DarkClan was always the bad guy. Anything with a dark element was evil. The platinum-furred warrior bit his lip, leaning forward to fire a line of sour words Pebblefoot before Bumblepelt decided to speak. Through it all, Frostwhisper kept a cold glare on the warrior who dared to go against his opinion. I will make you eat those words. The warrior listened only absent-mindedly to the clan's representative, with his anger getting the best of him as per usual. How dare Pebblefoot judge cats on their element. How dare he continue to pain Frostwhisper's kind as evil, despite fire elements being the most recent cause of disaster via the burning of ThunderClan and ShadowClan's land. He couldn't let it go, he wouldn't let it go because he didn't have it in him. He found himself disagreeing with Bumblepelt's orders as well, although he didn't vocalize it at the time. It didn't help that the young tom was already in one of his "moods" since his minor verbal scuffle with Pebblefoot. Food? Staying healthy? Frostwhisper scrunched up his nose in a mixture of disgust and disagreement. Why- so we can die at the claws of a secret murderer while feeling content with our full bellies? At least starvation doesn't kill immediately.
Sandwhisker avoided the arguments, since she saw no real value in them. Every cat could've been wrong, and every cat could've been right in some twisted and unusual scenario. It was unlikely, but that didn't mean it wasn't impossible. Maybe DarkClan and WindClan had teamed up together? Who knew. But one thing was for certain: if they sat around and debated the likely and unlikely, they weren't going to get anywhere, not anytime soon. What was more important was action, and ensuring that the fallen had her proper burial so that she could ascend to the stars. Above all other things, Sandwhisker was more concerned about the vigil and seeing that all things went smoothly. After all, she was likely the most religious in RiverClan. Then again, it wasn't exactly a topic most cats debated among one and other. She just chose to accept it. "I volunteer to help with the burial," the seal-pointed warrior called in her typical laid-back voice, waving her feathered tail from where she rested in the shade. "...And I can help with the WindClan border if we're finished in time." Sandwhisker added in a lower tone of voice, her mind escaping to her interactions with Beetlerunner once more. I got to make sure they don't find his scent.
Hm. This was an interesting situation. The storm element found her mind drifting to the concept of elements and remnants, and whether or not every individual type would be the same. Water would surely wash away with water overtime- this they had covered before. But less explored were the more uncommon elements, those who were hybrids like herself: ice and storm. However, she wouldn't go prodding. Ashsong had a reputation to uphold in order to ensure her position in RiverClan, and her situation would only worsen if she attempted to pick fights and debate with her clanmates. Duty came before mere theories in the world of Ashsong, anyways. If something had gone awry, the warrior needed to see it with her own eyes. However, she wanted to keep her distance from WindClan, in the event that her curious, experimental father came looking for her again. While confident in her own abilities, she still found it difficult to be in the presence of her father. How could she not be abused, when the tom had wanted to create nothing more than a hybrid element? Most kittens were born out of love. Ashsong and her littermates? They had been born as promising weapons- and only she had been the desirable outcome. Not to mention, her brother, Swanstep... She pushed the thought from her mind. Another time. "I'll attend the DarkClan patrol." The mouse-brown warrior stepped forward, her disposition calm and collected, almost robotic. If WindClan had truly done this...it might make RiverClan think poorly of her. She could only hope that the cats she'd once called family weren't that foolish. "If I'm needed for other duties, I'll be happy to tend to them afterwards."ThorneTalis#twixie901 Ioana003

OtterwadeThe warrior's cold jade eyes were still locked on that lifeless form that lay before the clan. He huffed, still laying motionless on his belly with a reserved contempt. After starving for moons this Leaf-bare, is this the best they could do? Weakness seemed to press farther into Riverclan cats than their empty stomachs it seemed. Otterwade quietly purred to himself, growing a litttle fretted over that thought. They were better than this, Bumblestripe could have been better than this. This loss was unsettling, to say the least. The representative, still much his junior, was wavering like a reed in a strong current. It was nearly shameful to see the poor thing stand attention in the middle of crowd, let alone with seething auras he could feel from quite a few positioned here and there. Pebblefoot, Frostwhisper, Hailfall. All much younger warriors than himself, and so emotional! They were oh so~ keen on blaming this clan, that clan, maybe more than one out to get them. Cowards, the entire lot. He thought to himself and the more it seemed so irrational. There were only two clans he considered un-reasonably murderous and yet... It wasn't likely Thunderclan or Shadowclan had been involved, those frogbrains were still recovering from the blaze that devastated their territories, let alone being occupied with each other. Windclan and Darkclan were more... tolerable, from his experience. His tail swished back and forth impatiently, why wasn't Bumblestripe thinking the obvious here? Even if Streamflower had fallen, she was still a clan cat. He snarled after the tom finished laying out his little recovery plans, towards no one in particular, "Why can't our medicine cat talk to our recently deceased, no? Wouldn't she be able to tell us the nature of her murder? Don't tell me this wasn't immediately obvious! Instead of guessing we could simply attempt to ask." The tom narrowed his eyes and cocked his head towards the general direction of the moon falls, "Or since some little incident are we too afraid to contact Starclan? Before we start losing our fur over swatting at our own tails, maybe some thinking should happen in those sand-addled heads of yours." Ioana003

BumblepeltThe Representative’s head moved towards yet another voice meowing loudly to him. An older Warrior, it seemed. The leopard-spotted tom had a harsh tongue, but he did speak some sense. ‘Why can’t the Medicine Cat ask Streamflower in a dream?’“You’re right, Otterwade, but there’s probably a reason why it can’t be done. Still, I’ll ask Willowbranch about it. The Half-Moon isn’t far away, maybe StarClan could help us then?” By the last sentence, the tom was mostly thinking aloud. There most certainly was a reason why Medicine Cats didn’t rely on StarClan for answers, and even in his brief time as a Representative, whatever StarClan message he may have gotten was more than vague, possibly because he isn’t a full Leader. But a lead is better than no lead. Thresher
