[nospaces] [attr="class","biggieno"] [attr="class","textieno"]As much as Ravenstar disliked not being able to contribute to the daily life in the Clan, she relished the time she got to spend with her son, knowing she'd lose him sooner than any mother would want to.[break][break]
It was nice to live in the nursery, even if it was temporary. She got to sleep in, and finally relax for a little while. She didn't have to always be the symbol of strength for the Clan. Having some weight lifted off her shoulders and seeing the Clan thrive under Crowthroat's temporary leadership was comforting. It was clear to others that he would inevitably be appointed to be her successor. That would be if she'd ever stop searching for Tawnylight and the others.[break][break]
The coal-coloured molly lifted her head as she felt Magpiekit move. Nap time's over. She thought, parting her jaws in a yawn. Ravenstar gently groomed her son's fur, a purr rumbling in her throat. "Did you sleep well?" She asked. "Your father said he'd stop by soon, once you woke up."[break][break]
If only she could tell him.

Life at the moment was simple. If only he knew that it'd never last. The only thing that directly concerned Magpiekit at the moment was the dark, which he feared with all of his being. Unbeknownst to him, his precious time with his mother was limited, as was his time within the ranks of DarkClan. His life would be turned upside down, as he'd suddenly become cast out and forced to live alongside his estranged brother and father, both of which he was yet to learn of. For all Magpiekit knew, Crowthroat was his father. Something did feel off- the tom seemed distanced, and it always bothered Magpiekit that he appeared nothing like neither his mother nor supposed father. But all of that...it was far over his head. He just knew that he loved them. Lazily the smoke kitten stirred, stretching out his tiny paws before he purred at Ravenstar's touch. His momma, well, she was his world: his closest confident, his best friend, his role model, his playmate, his comfort when he was afraid, his warm bed, everything. Magpiekit didn't know much else outside of his mother, given that he was yet to venture around DarkClan's camp. Crowthroat was often busy to visit too much, but Mapgiekit hoped his dad would escort him around camp and show him everything. Maybe his momma would come, too! Magpiekit stretched out his delicate form before resting himself against the warmth of Ravenstar's belly, his purr continuing to rumble softly. "G'morning, mama," he mewed lazily, following the greeting with a wide yawn. "My dream was scary, mama, I didn't like it. I-I couldn't find you, and there was something growling at me in the dark. I couldn't see anything." He frowned before glancing up at Ravenstar, blinking his blues sincerely as he spoke, "...you get afraid sometimes too? Right, mommma? You 'n da?"However, all worries seemed to be forgotten when it was mentioned that Crowthroat would soon be visiting. He brightened the surroundings with a wide smile, raising his head off of Ravenstar's side so that he might sit up. "Really? Can we all tour camp together, please? I promise I'll be good. I-I'll say all me please-eses and thank you-es!"Thorne

[nospaces] [attr="class","biggieno"] [attr="class","textieno"]Ravenstar smiled softly as Magpiekit explained his dream. She gently groomed his fur. ”My my, that does sound scary. It’s all over now, though. You’re safe, my love.” She purred softly. The molly nodded as he asked. ”Everyone gets afraid sometimes. It’s nothing to be ashamed of.” She reassured him. ”Sometimes I’m afraid of things. Your father is afraid more often than I am, but don’t tell him that I told you that.” Ravenstar smiled, thinking of Stormstar as she spoke.[break][break]
The molly groomed her own fur as Magpiekit seemed to brighten with excitement as she mentioned Crowthroat’s visit. She hummed for a moment, then nodded. As much as she didn’t want to let him leave, knowing he’d want to play outside more often which would cause her to lose some time with him, she knew Magpiekit would need to spread his wings. She wanted him happy more than anything.[break][break]
”Alright, but only if you promise to be on your best behaviour.” She meowed. ”You wouldn’t want your Clanmates to think you’re a troublemaker.” Ravenstar flicked her ear. ”Maybe you’ll get to meet some of the cats who are awake. I’m sure Daisybloom would love to show you a game or two if she’s awake.” She purred.[break][break]
Ravenstar looked at the den exit. ”She’s a good cat to be friends with. I’m sure she’d bring you lots of things to play with, so if we see her, you best be nice. If she’s still asleep, I’ll be sure to introduce you another time.”[break][break]
The molly gently pulled Magpiekit closer to groom him more. "And you must look presentable. Don't go messing up your fur before we give you the tour, okay?"

- This would've hurt a lot, I guess not -
Crowthroat had been organizing the morning border patrols, something that had become regular routine for him since Ravenstar had her litter.
What didn't sit right with him was that she only came home with one kitten, after telling him there would be more in their previous discussion.
Crowthroat didn't question it directly, not wanting to strike a nerve with the molly as his best guess was the other kitten was stillborn. Ravenstar had her secrets. As the symbol of strength for DarkClan, she'd always keep what troubled her to herself. He wished he could be the one she confided in.
But it turns out that he wasn't. And he still hadn't moved past that wake-up call.
Once the patrols were set and leaving, the tom made his way to the nursery, having promised to visit Ravenstar and Magpiekit. He saw that his adoptive son was already awake, seeming eager as Ravenstar spoke of a tour.
"Going outside today, are we?" He asked. word count, notes, n stuff

A wave of comfort fell over the small smoke furball as his mother reassured him that all would be alright. With Magpiekit's tensed frame softening, he leaned against the warm body of Ravenstar, tiny nose pressed into her dark fur as he listened to her words intently. His mind continued to wonder back to his frightening dream, but his mother's words were enough to soothe his sorrows and uplift his spirits. At least, her joke about Crowthroat being less brave brought a small giggle to the kitten. "But da Crowthroat doesn't seem all that scared! Is he scared of the dark, too?" Magpiekit seemed somewhat serious, but at the same time, it was difficult to tell. It almost felt like a genuine question. Magpiekit had to get his fear of the dark from somewhere, right? He couldn't be alone in that matter. He pawed slowly and meticulously at his nose after stifling a sneeze, finding his snout tickled by his mother's coat. However, his ears perked in interest when Ravenstar caved at his query, mentioning a cat or two he could potentially meet. He picked his head up from his hovering paw. "I'm good mama, I promise!" He offered the queen a large smile, doing his best to convince her of his good manners. Magpiekit had no interest in trouble- he had an innate sense of curiosity as most kittens had, but he preferred to play it safe. He was a shameless coward, anyways. "Daisybloom's a pretty name. Did you come up with it? You'll give me a pretty name when I'm a warrior too, right?"Another light giggle escaped from the kitten as Ravenstar pulled him closer to ensure that his coat was clean. He didn't protest much, instead practically going limp in the leader's grasp. "That tickles, mama!" His giggling returned, echoing throughout the practically empty nursery that the kitten and his dam occupied. Although he meant to cause no trouble, he couldn't resist squirming underneath the rasping of Ravenstar's tongue, only to have his attention stolen away by the entrance of Crowthroat, his foster father who he knew only as his own sire. His pale blue eyes visibly brightened. "G'morning, da!" Magpiekit squeaked enthusiastically at the tall and hardened warrior of DarkClan, his wiggling temporarily ceasing. "Yes, mama said I could go today! You 'n ma will show me around? Please?" The fragile kitten continued to train his eyes on his father, admiring his size and build. "...I'll be as big as you someday, right, da?"ThorneJinx

Ravenstar shook her head as Magpiekit asked if Crowthroat was afraid of the dark. "I don't think so, it wouldn't make much sense if he was. He likes to do night patrols." She meowed. Hoping to comfort him, she gave him another gentle between his ears. "It's only natural to be afraid of the dark sometimes. Some of us were afraid of it when we were kits, just like you. ThunderClan is full of scaredy-cats who think they're tough, but they were afraid of me when I was your size. Goes to show how tough they really are, huh?" She purred. "You'll grow to be brave, and soon even the mightiest warrior won't be braver than you." Ravenstar gave him a smile.
She stood up and stretched for a moment, flexing her claws into the soft moss nest before sitting back down. Ravenstar couldn't help but wonder what sort of nest Bumblekit would be sleeping in back in WindClan. Knowing Stormstar, their son would certainly be smothered with love and affection, and most likely the softest nest in the Valley. She hoped the two toms were happy. She hoped Magpiekit was happy in DarkClan with her despite his fear of the shadows. She'd trade her element for fire or lightning to banish his fears if StarClan would let her. Everything she'd built meant the world to her, but Magpiekit was her world now. Even if it was painfully temporary. A cruel punishment from StarClan, giving both her sons an element she'd never be able to raise correctly. At least they would be loved in WindClan when the time comes for her and Magpiekit to part ways.
Her attention was pulled back to him when he asked another question. Her heart sank as his words fell onto her ears. You'll give me a pretty name when I'm a warrior too, right? Ravenstar desperately tried to repress the sadness that welled in her chest, not wanting to have Magpiekit think anything was wrong. Certainly she could think of something that would make him happy and pass the word along to Stormstar for the name, right? "Of course, my love." She nuzzled his small frame. "I'll give you the prettiest name if it would make you happy."
She looked up as Crowthroat entered the Nursery, dipping her head to the tom. She rose to her paws, not wanting to leave much time for whatever tension remained between the pair to grow. "Why don't we go outside now?"

Crowthroat offered Magpiekit a smile as his adoptive son spoke. "Good morning, Magpiekit." He purred, dipping his head awkwardly to Ravenstar in return. He looked back at the kit and nodded.
"I do believe it's finally time for you to get out of this nursery, eh? The sun's out, it's a beautiful day to go outside." He meowed. "It's a whole new world out there."
Crowthroat flicked his ear at Magpiekit's question. "Of course you will. I'm sure you'll grow up to be even bigger than me." The tom waved his tail. "You might be the strongest warrior in the Valley some day."
His paws kneaded the ground for a few moments, then nodded to the kit as he stepped outside, signaling his approval for Magpiekit to follow. word count, notes, n stuff

But not even da Crowthroat was afraid of the dark? Could he really grow to be as big and strong as his ma and da if he was still petrified of the dark? Magpiekit swallowed the lump in his throat in silence, fearful of disappointing either of his parents. They were both big, strong, and well-respected within DarkClan- he couldn't possibly go on to ruin their good names. But the dark...it was still so, so scary. He shifted his paws around and briefly glanced down at them before returning his concerned blue pools to his mother. "...So...So I'll have the shadowy powers that you and da have when I get bigger and braver then, right? I-I'm only weird because I'm...scared?" There was a strain to his voice as his throat began to tighten from panic. Everyone he'd heard about, everyone he'd seen here- they were all the same. So why was he so...different? The smoke kitten's temporary lapse in confidence was swallowed up by joy when Ravenstar promised to give him a pretty name as a warrior. "I would love that, momma! Something pretty, like....like Magpieraven!" He beamed at the thought of being named in the likeness of his mother, yet to understand how pathetic and redundant his proposed warrior name sounded. "Or even Magpiethroat, like da's name!" He let his eyes meet his mother's once more. They were squinting from all the smiling he was doing. The humble little creature glimpsed back up at his stand-in father. Looking up at Crowthroat made his neck hurt- he was so much taller! "Really? Taller than you?" Magpiekit's eyes stretched until his whites were visible, flabbergasted by the idea of being taller than Crowthroat. "I-I'll try to be the bestest warrior there is, da, I promise! I-I'll even hunt in the dark one day, just like you! And I'll bring back lots of prey, so we never go hungry, and then we can all eat and eat until we get super tall, so tall that ThunderClan won't even mess with us."He reeled his head in the direction of the nursery's exit. There was a whole different world out there, right? Would it be scary? Would...there be other friends for him to play with out there? The nursery was always so quiet, so empty outside of his mama and Crowthroat when he came to visit. Were all the other kits hiding? "Yes please, I'd really love to go outside now! I-I'll find friends out there, right? Can I play with them, please?" He was very hopeful. If only his tiny little dreams weren't going to be crushed over and over right before his little eyes.
